Letters went home to patients starting last week regarding the data breach that happened in the New Year.
HARTFORD, Conn. — Patients with the Community Health Center are being informed of a data breach in January that may have impacted patient personal information.
Letters went home to patients starting last week regarding the data breach, and information is also available here.
The CHC said it noticed “unusual activity” in its computer systems on Jan. 2. Computer experts were brought in and were able to stop the hacker’s access within hours. the CHC said.
“Fortunately, the criminal hacker did not delete or lock any of our data, and the criminal’s activity did not affect our daily operations,” CHC said.
However, CHC said patient health records “may have been accessed or taken,” including names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, emails, diagnoses, treatment details, test results, Social Security Number (SSN), and health insurance information.
For those who got a COVID test or vaccine at CHC, information that may have been impacted includes patient name, date of birth, phone number, email, address, gender, race, ethnicity and any provided insurance information, possibly as well as vaccine type, dose and date administered.
The CHC has not seen any information being misused but is still taking extra steps to strengthen security and detect suspicious computer activity.
CHC is also offering patients who gave the CHC their social security number free identity theft protection through IDX, which will include 24 months of credit and CyberScan monitoring, a $1 million insurance reimbursement policy and help to recover your identity if it’s stolen. For those interested in the identity protection services, call IDX at 1-877-229-9277 or visit this website.
