6. Thank fuck. The amount of areas where councils were resorting to shit like not collecting bins, closing public toilets and just overall trashing half their services because they couldn’t afford them is awful.

11. The reason councils are broke is because they have to pay so much for housing to give vulnerable people shelter.

    This headline should be “£69bn more to pay for boomer landlords holidays”.

    The government should be using any money they can beg borrow or steal to build council housing which has a great return on investment and cuts bills in the long term, not the short.

    Will this be in addition to the revenue from the higher caps councils can now raise tax by?

25. If this is guided to the correct services they’ll be a drop in knife crime over the next few years. Councils are often overlooked in the preventative interventions they undertake that reduce serious societal issues.
