Just like that we have 69B, Just like that we have 3 x black hole worth of money. Just like that it appears. where was it going before ?
Thought It was strange that my council put the tax up by 4.99% makes sense now
Nice. Also the council will just waste it probably on a fancy new office desk woth 100k and some other bs
I now need to figure out how this good news makes me angry.
I don’t know if this is good or bad yet.
I’m waiting to get my opinion from the billionaire elite owned media.
Thank fuck. The amount of areas where councils were resorting to shit like not collecting bins, closing public toilets and just overall trashing half their services because they couldn’t afford them is awful.
I assume the 22Bn black hole has been filled already?
Cut out the fucking middle-man and hire people yourself instead of hiring consultants to advise on who to pick to consult on a consultation about a consultant for a consultation on a contractors job for a role.
Idk, am I stupid?
Glad Social Care is getting something, it’s very close to collapsing with the NI increase.
Baffling as to why Labour are prepared to chuck all that cash at councils yet don’t want to look at reforming council tax.
The reason councils are broke is because they have to pay so much for housing to give vulnerable people shelter.
This headline should be “£69bn more to pay for boomer landlords holidays”.
The government should be using any money they can beg borrow or steal to build council housing which has a great return on investment and cuts bills in the long term, not the short.
All of that is just to pay off the Croydon Council debt.
ALTERNATIVE JOKE:
Croydon Council just shrugging and going ” We didn’t get any extra funding, don’t know what you are talking about *drives off in Bugatti*”
Hey America look over here!
We voted in a Labour govt and they’re investing in infrastructure!
Confirms my theory of Labour trying to improve the most visible things in society i.e local communities which improves their poll rating.
>”Labour’s commitment to the ‘Devolution Revolution’ continues, with promises to reduce bureaucratic bidding processes for funding pots.”
They’d better. Whoever came up with the idea local authorities should blow money engaging in costly bidding wars to get central government support deserves throwing into the Thames.
Then councils shouldnt be raising council tax rates
Great news, but will they spend it wisely… I imagine some will just spunk it up the wall on useless projects.
£3.7 billion extra spending for pensioners (Care). £0.27 billion for children (CSCP).
More of the same then.
Millionaire Boomers to get more free social care as economy collapses.
Not bad news at all but not exactly out of the ordinary.
The 24/25 period was a 6.6% increase (real terms) on the previous year.
It’ll be interesting to see the breakdown.
£69bn, how’s it funded? How much does the NI increase cost local councils?
Will this be in addition to the revenue from the higher caps councils can now raise tax by?
And yet we have a shrinking military while there is was in Europe
That’s nice, but then why is my council tax going up and the prospect of bin collection being monthly happening? 🙁
Amazing. Does it say where it is getting the money from?
If this is guided to the correct services they’ll be a drop in knife crime over the next few years. Councils are often overlooked in the preventative interventions they undertake that reduce serious societal issues.
Bet it’ll all end up in London and Manchester with next to none ending up anywhere else.
Let me guess: most of it’ll go to the rich South with the rest being divided between everyone else
