  6. The regulator utterly failed here. Water is a heavily regulated industry with its own dedicated regulator. They had the power throughout to prevent Thames Water from fucking up here.

    BOTH Thames Water and Ofwat absolutely fucked it up here. By selling the narrative that it’s ‘privatization’ that’s to blame, we are totally excusing Ofwat from their disgraceful management of the sector.

    That’s why ‘nationalisation’ isn’t a magic bullet. You take the problem out of the hands of one group that totally fucked it up (Thames Water management) and into the hands of another group that ALSO totally fucked it up (Ofwat management).

    A better solution in my opinion is fixing the regulator. If Ofwat was fit for purpose the water system would work in either private or public hands. If Ofwat isn’t fit for purpose, the water system won’t work no matter who runs it.

  7. Predatory Capitalism will commodify absolutely everything. I’m surprised they haven’t yet found a way to charge us for breathing.
