This is a win-win for the Vote Leave government. If people volunteer their homes and sponsor refugees, the government gets to claim to be humanitarian (while doing virtually nothing). If not, they get to blame the general public (and their voters will be ecstatic). This is the standard right-wing troll question “how many have you put up in your home” turned into official UK government policy.
So she is “investigating the legal options to create a humanitarian route” and claims “This means anyone without ties to the UK fleeing the conflict in Ukraine will have a right to come to this nation.”
Good to know that merely by investigating legal options Patel has fixed the problem.
Typical of this government. Make a woolly pledge with no details and claim immediate victory.
