108 previous convictions 4 of them violence against women including a previous stabbing of a woman
3 measley years behind bars and only 10 days out does this
He is absolutely responsible for his actions but so is the justice system, this was allowed to happen
Bloody hell. We need whole life orders for people like this. He has got 15 years with 8 years post release supervision. But he carried out this crime just after release for stabbing another woman, and has 108 previous convictions, 4 of which are assaults on women.
At this point this guy should be locked up and seeing an hour of daylight for the rest of his life.
A truly horrific read. The guy is a monster. That poor woman was lucky to survive.
108 previous convictions…
Jesus. Christ.
108 convictions. It’s absolutely scandalous. Conviction rate in Ireland is comically low and so presumably has committed significantly more crime.
Another monster off the streets until a portion of his conviction is suspended and he strikes again.
Jesus Christ. I am fucking enraged by how this country just continuously lets women and children down.
Lock this prick up, weld the door shut and forget about him.
Why are violent repeat offenders being released? This man has no place in society at all
Why do we have such lenient sentences in ireland ? I just don’t get it. I understand prison space is limited, but surely we could put these individuals to work cutting hedges by hand, filling potholes…..all chained up.
Probably a very naive idea on my part, but there is no real punishment for people who commit such heinous crimes
I am once again calling for a sentencing strategy based on number of convictions, as I have done many times on here for years.
After 3 convictions, you should lose the right to a suspended sentence. After 5, there’s a minimum time added on to whatever the judge decided. Say an extra month. This increases as the convictions do. After your 12th conviction, you’re off the streets for a year, minimum.
This would get the most dangerous repeat criminals off the street. People would learn that there are now consequences. But the bleeding hearts will erroneously compare it to the US’s absurd three strike law and shout it down.
Awful. He didn’t even remember doing it a few hours later?!
I wonder what he is addicted to, that is fucking mental. Wishing her luck in her healing journey and that he can get the help he clearly needs.
I’m strongly opposed to capital punishment but cases like this really make me rethink my position.
Give him a year for each previous conviction.
Put him down, like the diseased dog that he is.
The fact he wrote a letter and is going on like he hasn’t got a clue should prevent him from getting anything suspended off his sentence. Acting like he was going to kill himself shows how despicable he really is, he just attacked the woman and expects to play that card to feel sorry for himself.
He is not some fool who made a mistake, what he did is not possible without having a level of awareness and control over his behaviour.
“The overall supervision of this man must be closely monitored.”
mate best place to monitor him is in fuckin prison where he deserves to be left to rot.
If it wasn’t life destroying violence and harm as a subject matter, the fact that we all know we’re about to read about multiple priors every time we click into an article, some of which were similar or exactly the same as the headline, it would be funny. I just don’t understand how it can be justified by the powers that be, that this man was out free. With that many convictions and four previous assaults on women one of them being a stabbing, this man needed to be locked up forever. Clearly no attempt to reform on this evil mans part, but shuuur loookit.
This guy should be just locked up for life. Waste of oxygen.
“assessed as at high risk of sexual reoffending and very high risk of violent offending”… why if the headline sentence was 15-23 years did he only get 16…. Surely the crime warrants the upper side of the headline sentence and not close to the minimum??
The fuck
Jesus Christ, that was an incredibly tough read. My heart goes out to the woman, what an ordeal to go through and then another ordeal in dealing with surviving it 💔
>O’Sullivan has been assessed as at high risk of sexual reoffending and very high risk of violent offending.
108 previous convictions, 4 for assaults on women. I agree with others, there needs to be a point where public safety needs to be taken into account in sentencing. The DPP guidelines included life imprisonment for this case, but he’ll be out again.
Absolutely fucking outrageous. Can’t help but imagine the dearly beloved women in my life having the misfortune of encountering a filthy subhuman creature like this. I don’t know what I’d do, but I have zero faith that the justice system in this country would provide any comfort.
He (the Judge) said it was hugely important that “these matters are addressed by those who have his custody to offer some measure of protection against further violence, particularly against women.”
So the judge thinks it’s hugely important and then gives him a reduced sentence.
Why are judges allowed to do whatever the fuck they want with absolutely no push back?
We baby our violent criminals. We wrap our rapists, murderers, pedophiles, stalkers and abusers up in cotton wool and give them chance after chance like they’re Mammy/Daddy’s special boy/girl.
But then, this country has a long history of individuals saying nothing when they should be saying something—in our own families, homes, schools, sports organisations, and so on. These people aren’t even shunned by those around them until they’re so out of control that there’s a trail of devastation in their wake.
You’d wonder why more don’t turn to vigilante justice when this is allowed to happen.
15 years honestly isn’t long enough. Fucker is a danger to women everywhere and doesn’t seem to be remorseful at all about his actions, just blaming whatever drug/booze he was on at the time.
Poor woman was in her own home and her own bed, I cannot imagine the absolute violation that comes from that alone. I hope this brings her some sense of peace and safety.

Every person convicted of a violent crime should have their photo available to the public.
Big article about some monster with over 100 convictions and you could be sat beside him on the bus and know no better.
This fella is a prime example of where they should just throw away the cell key.
My proposal is to double sentences from a low base for every conviction as a criminal behaviour tariff. That gives enough second chances to placate any reasonable person.
2^5 is 32 days – a month for fifth conviction.
2^10 is 1024 days – nearly 3 years for tenth conviction.
2^15 is 89 years – no-one commits a sixteenth offence.
All this could run in parallel to standard sentence – so
* 2 years for assault + 1 day for criminal behaviour tariff to run concurrently for first offence in the case of Crotty.
* 8 x 10^29 years in the case of the previous conviction for this yaya.
I mean, we don’t think he’s going to stop, right?
He should have been given a life sentence. There is no rehabilitating someone who has committed multiple violent assaults and then progresses to rape. His next victim will be murdered.
This man is absolutely a danger to society, he most definitely will offend again
That poor woman
I can’t fathom how he only got three years originally. Stabbing someone is attempted murder ffs.
Can we get a Dexter over here?
These judges need to be arrested
chain two cinder blocks to his legs and throw him in the Shannon. saves society a lot of trouble.
This is absolutely terrifying, that poor woman
50 years wouldn’t be enough for this scum
>O’Sullivan had been released just ten days before this incident from a three-year sentence with the final six months suspended for the stabbing of another woman in her apartment in 2022. He has 108 previous convictions, four of which are for assaults on women.
This is insane, social contract is broken.
The death penalty needs to be brought in to deal with these people. They have no right to live in society
108 previous convictions and 3 years in jail so safe to assume 107 of those were there at the time of his first conviction. Dreadful for the woman in question and lucky to survive but in what kind of society does someone with that amount of priors with a number of them of a serious nature get 3 years. 15 years unlikely to change him either.
Why isn’t there a photo, anywhere, of this absolute waste of oxygen? Is there a reason for this? I find it hard to believe that the media outlets don’t have access to a photo.
A photo of these types of perpetrators should be published on conviction.

Absolutely sickening
The “justice” system in Ireland is a joke.
