  2. We’re Commonwealth. Members of a 56 nation group that pre-dates the EU.
    That group was mostly focused on more diplomatic ties and not economic, but that could change at the stroke of a pen.

  3. As a middle class American observing our leaders actions… I feel like we’re waving goodbye to a lifeboat that decided to go someplace else while the “captain” on our boat is adamantly gaslighting us into believing their threats are in our best interests.

  4. There’s no longer a sane benefit to take America seriously as a hegemonic power. The fact that you get 4 years of chaos, 4 years of bare-stability, and then another 4 years of chaos with this country is just insane in a 12-year span. I don’t understand how world leaders can deal with Trump now with a straight fking face.

  5. Coming from the UK side here; I really hope the UK jumps on this, not just economic though, easier visa access for businesses and individuals for citizens either side.

  10. Now is the time to strengthen ties away from America.

    Trump is only delaying tariffs on Canada, Mexico, EU, Mars because he can’t afford to fight a trade war on that many fronts so he’ll focus on China (who’ll pay the tariffs on MAGA merch?) for the moment and punish anyone who’ll trade with them.

    After trying to isolate them from the Western world he’ll turn his attention back to his allies

    See, I’m full in support of reducing dependence on Trumps US, but I want neither the Brexiteers to get a W, nor for whatever Putin prop that will likely take command in the UK to reap the rewards.

    But then I also want the UK to get better, we need a strong and United west and not one split over political differences.

    Scandi/UK/Canada is a pretty key chunk of Earth when it comes to US and Russian relations*. We should be as tightly knit as possible.

  15. To my Canadian Brothers. Starma and his clown wouldnt know a good opportunity if it was gift wrapped in an amazing country, spoke English and was also a commonwealth country. Hell one of the fuckwhits doesnt know where Italy and Turkey are.

  16. Watch the UK drag their feet in order not to anger Trump, because they somehow STILL live in the illusion that they are a mini USA, a big big boy which matters more than the EU (all together), Canada etc. and is an equal player to USA.

  23. Wasn’t the problem last time about the UK basically having EU standards but Canada has US standards for things like food? I remember info nuggets about chlorinated chicken and such being a remarkably sticky issue.

  24. Okay, I know this is hitting the US when they’re down (and where it hurts) and I don’t want to rub it in but UK would be an amazing snack trading partner! All of their snacks are better than the US counterparts, from chips to chocolate to gummies. 

    If we could flip our entire snack section from bland US trash with a few Canadian gems to delicious UK options with a few Canadian gems then I would be a happy hoser!
