  1. Great Grandad might have though. It was the rising star, golden child, of politics before a certain Austrian did what he did and showed the world what it actually does.

  2. Everyones Grandad had views that were seen as fascist these days lol

  3. Be funny if Oswald Mosley’s grandchild was on this sub…

  4. Virtually nobody is voting for fascist parties now either. The closest thing was the BNP, but I don’t think they actually exist anymore do they? The communist party had more candidates standing than any fascist party

  5. The youngest WW2 veteran would’ve been born around 1925, and would be at least 100 years old now. So needless to say, most living grandads in the UK didn’t serve in WW2, and in fact would be part of the generation that reaped the benefits of the post-war economic expansion.

Edit: to clarify, my point is that looking back to WW2 is losing its relevance today because shooting fascists has effectively left living memory, and (as others pointed out in their comments) the descendants of those people are likely to have learned different lessons from WW2 (jingoism), and are sadly more likely to align with modern fascists than against them. We would be better off looking forwards instead of backwards all the time.

  6. My Grandad turned 18 after the war ended, however his dad was a captain in coastal command.

  7. Most peoples grandads right now were born in the 30s or later. None of them shot anyone

  8. I was just walking through my city centre (Bristol) and for the first time in ages stopped to have a proper look at the huge stone memorial commemorating the soldiers that died in WW1 and WW2. It is so surreal to me that as millennials we very well may watch nazis rise again. My husband went to the pub with his 80 year old dad last week, who has a 98 year old friend who fought in the war. My husband said he spoke with such genuine sadness and grief that this was happening again, he said he lost everything to save his country from nazis and he’s genuinely worried it is going to happen again

  9. My Grandad was 3 when the war ended how old do you think I am?

  10. My grandfather fought in the La Resistenza and was in the main party that hung Benito Mussolini in the village of Giulino di Mezzegra.

  11. The royals are born into the job and not voted on….

  12. My Grandfather on my dads side fought at battle of the bulge. I
He was a brengun tank driver.i believe his regiment was also scheduled to go into Belson to liberate it. But he missed it due to illness. My dad is forever greatful as he thinks it would have utterly broken him.

Unfortunately he died when my dad was 18 and long before my mum met him. I wish I could have met him, he sounds like a right character.

My grandad, he was too young to fight and his family worked on the trains, But in the aftermath he served guarding one of the prisons in germany that held the nazis before trials. I cant remember which one – I will find out.

His wife – My grandma is 93.
She doesnt speak about it often but last year she told us tales of her and her sisters dancing with the navy sailors after Vday / end of the war.
    Her and cousin was evacuated.
She cried reflecting on the celebrations.
I don’t think I appreciated until that moment how privileged I was at 32 to know and love someone from that era and be able to have these conversations.

  13. I’m sure you are trying to imply that Reform are all fascists, but if you keep over using the term just to refer to people you don’t like it loses all meaning. Either that or you don’t actually know what Fascist means

  14. We kind of need a new definition of fascist… I haven’t seen it used this much in a long time and it’s just going to get watered down
