This just popped into my head. I used to listen to it as a child. Can’t remember any other words. A traditional/pub sounding song from my memory. Google is no help.
Anyone any idea what it is?
**Edit:**
Ruled out:
Rare Auld Mountain Dew
God Bless England
Whack Fol De Diddle
Some Say The Devil Is Dead
Comical Genius
**Edit 2**
“Diddle eye dum dee, diddle eye dum doh” or “Diddle eye dum dee, diddle eye dum day” is exactly how it sounds.
No more diddlys, idles, dums or anything else. Just that sentence repeated after every chorus or every few sentences or so.
**Edit 3**
Thank you u/brytespark! You got it. Port Lairge by The Clancy Brothers.

No wonder nobody could get it, my memory of “diddle eye dum dee” was clearly a little off.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Sounds like a christy Moore track
Some Say the Devil is Dead has a diddly part in some [versions](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FyPWsDcFtvA?%5Bt=72%5D). Check around 1:10.

Oh my god I know the actual song you’re on about but not the name. It’s now driving me cracked 😂 It’s an old song as Gaeilge, I heard about it in a children’s school book. If I remember the name, I’ll let you know!
EDIT: is it this one????

Slightly different but could it be “Tippin’ it up to Nancy”? https://youtu.be/kqvWuYrNShA this is the Christy Moore version but there are others out there that you might have heard.
