Went for a walk around the heath a couple of day’s ago and came across this section – a mound with trees in the middle and lots of plants/ bushes with a fence surrounding it.

Did think the fence was very easily scalable if somebody really did want to get in

I was wondering if it was fenced off because of conservation efforts?

  1. This time of year places not unlike this are closed ready for the wildlife breeding season. Keeps those pesky humans from disturbing/destroying nests

  2. Cottaging… trust me, you don’t want to see what goes on in there…

  3. Burial mounds ‘tumulus’ if I have the right bit – once speculated to be burial place of Boudicca, but debunked.

  4. It’s an Iron Age burial mound. Folklore says it’s Boudicca’s Mound.

  5. It’s not out of bounds usually. They only close it when you’re on your way. Now move along. The party is about to start.

  6. Ah, I know what it is. Don’t go in there. I used to know this guy, Minty. He had a dog who he’d train to attack rich people. He was into the whole class war thing. He called the dog Gramsci after an Italian Marxist. Rumour has it, it could smell wealth from up to 20 feet. The thing is, it all backfired. Minty won 100 grand on a scratchcard and Gramsci bit his knees off.

No one knows what happened to Gramsci, but some people believe he roams wild on Hampstead Heath… close to the meat. He’s probably being kept at bay behind that fence.

  7. I thought there was an information board there you can read saying something about it being boudicas burial mound

  8. Exclusive dogging site for the rich people who live around the area.

  9. Erosion. Too much footfall will damage this ancient site.

  10. nothing there, really. they raised the fence to save people from the absolute boringness beyond it. angus steakhouse has a much better view and feel.

  11. Looks like an ancient graveyard or burial site of some sort

  12. I remember reading ages ago that it was excavated by the Victorians and they found rubbish….supposed to be a bronze age burial mound.

  13. You’d be buggered if you get to the top of that steep hill, remember to do some stretches first !

  14. It’s the Hampstead tumulus, I thought it would be more exciting

  15. It’s where the Bears treehouse is. 🍆🍆🍆

  16. I see George Michael’s stains are still on the fence post

  17. Source of the Ancient River Fleet which now runs underground through built up North London , through Camden Town down to Farringdon where it meets the Thames.
