Trump and Netanyahu dubbed ‘two psychopaths’ by TD amid calls to boycott White House visit

  1. Just to save everyone a click, the TD is of course Ruth “not invited” Coppinger.

  2. I doubt Trump would extend the invite without getting concessions anyway. He (or those around him) know how important it is to Ireland.

  3. We should make a proper statement to this clown show administration and turn down the invite.

  4. Our student union politicians will of course be calling for us to not go.

They won’t be happy until we isolate ourselves internationally and our economy collapses.

Edit: forgot /r/ireland wants us to be poor again

  5. If there is a presidential visit, I want to get somewhere he’ll see with a sign something along the lines of “Umpa Lumpa’s don’t belong in politics” but better. Any idea’s? I want it to have an orange theme… 😂

  6. Lets move the US ambassador out of the Park.

I mean seriously a peer of Uachtarán na hÉireann ? And how do you signal your displeasure to a “property magnate” except by downgrading the suite their toady in your country gets given ?

Move the Palestinian ambassador in instead.

Edit: If I’m reading this right Deerfield house is rented to the yanks and still owned by this state.

I mean I know we are in a position of full and complete prostration before the yanks but, perhaps ethnic cleansing in Gaza is too much even for a few quid of Apple tax ?

But come on, we all know we won’t be doing a god damn thing. The yanks could fucking nuke Gaza and still official Ireland would be tugging them off..

  7. Ah yes, the annual call to boycott the Paddy’s day visit

  8. “Guys we better keep quiet about some of the nasty rhetoric coming from Germany incase they stop importing our cattle and butter” –  People in this sub (1933)

  9. I think we and the rest of the world can outlast the Trump presidency.

He’s given Elon Musk ethical protection as he and a bunch of 20year olds straight out of college are apparently raided the Treasury computers gathering people’s personal info.

They’re chasing away all the illegal AND LEGAL immigrants so their workforce is about to go down the sink soon.

Turning MAGA on trans ppl and now this DEI stuff which will likely negatively effect minorities and women and disabled ppl in the workplace.

Some random Republican has even filed to get rid of gay marriage 👎🏻 they are quickly trying to go back in time 50years it just won’t work!!

Tariff wars with the friendliest neighbor you could ever ask for Canada 🤷🏻‍♂️ and Mexico which will raise prices hugely for everyone like it’s only been 2 weeks those MAGA ppl have no idea what a full on tariff war will do to them 🤣

Picking fights left and right 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

Threatened all of South America to stay using the dollar OR ELSE 100% tariffs 🤦🏻‍♂️

All this is doing is pushing all countries around the USA in 6 months to 1 year actual common sense will prevail in America and I would hope ppl wake up and realize by then they’ve been scammed. Then again I thought we thought this was obvious 8years ago and he seems to have even more fans now

  10. Same individuals calling for / supporting a boycott will be the same ones criticising the government if the economy tanks and there are job losses and public spending cuts.

  11. I would call to rescind any invitation and declare trump persona non gratta following this declaration of intent supporting invasion and deportation of population

Or is it that people advocating for crimes against humanity are welcome here?

Oh I misread orange wannabe war criminal isn’t coming, good, yeah nobody should ever go to him either, he wants America first, give him America alone

  12. I love they way they never add the TDs name in the headline and you know it’s some irrelevant hack.

America accounts for 30% of Exports at roughly €61 billion Euro with total trade worth around €90 billion. This effects approximately 400,000 jobs, most of which are high paying.

These annual white house visits help maintain and grow this. We’re probably one of the smallest countries in the world that gets so much face time.

  13. You could consider the US a fairly significant guarantor or underwriter of Irish sovereignty as well as a significant political and economic allie … Trump at this point in time imagines he has the power of a mediaeval Pope, and I’m sure it wouldn’t be beyond him to “gift” us to the UK … better keep him sweet!

  14. Trump doesn’t operate the same way or value political events like this as previous American presidents. We should probably still go, if only to avoid upsetting him, but I doubt there’s anything the government could say or do to positively influence his policies toward Ireland or anything else.

However, I do think the government’s actions could easily draw negative attention from Trump. My feeling is that we should maintain appearances. And Trump, much like the T. rex in Jurassic Park, seems to base his reactions on movement. So we should stay absolutely still.

  15. They should have stopped going in 2001.

Sucking Yank and Brit balls, then going back for more each year is Irelands biggest shame. Like if a country had daddy issues.

Please love me Mr President! I’ll wear the green tie you like!

  16. The alternative approach is tobgo and use it as an opportunity to stand up for Palestinians and lobby for their welfare. It might be a difficult needle to thread, but it can be done.

  17. Ireland can make all the hypocritical grandiose statements it likes, usually about Israel.

We’ve no problem continuing to trade with Russia while they bomb the shit out of Ukraine.

We will continue to kiss Trumps arse, no matter what he says or does.

If Netanyahu had been the one announcing Costa Del Gaza, Harris would have been first on the news to proclaim his outrage.

Lick arsing or not, Trump has his eye on the multinationals here. He has stated he will do special deals to get them back to America, whatever it takes.

Our economy would take a catatastrophic hit if the big three were tempted back.

So Harris/ Martin will do nothing to piss Trump off, only to say his statement was…wait for it…’concerning’.

If Red Ruth was in power, she’d make excuses for Trump too.

  18. The President of the US meets all sorts of world leaders all the time, EG Obama hosted Xi Jinping and Mrs Xi Jinping in 2015. You can be sure the visit was not an endorsement by either side of the entirety of the other side’s policies.

It would be absolutely insane to turn down the invitation if it comes IMO. At the very least, An Taoiseach can go and tell the President that we do not agree with either his back Israel to the hilt policy or ethnic cleanse Gaza policy.

  19. Isn’t it funny? Israel is even more dependent on the US than we are, but they never worry about losing favor with them. They don’t worry if reducing Gaza to ashes and killing upward of 2% of their entire population will piss off the US. But for some reason, *we* worry that raising our voice *against* that will have have seismic implications for us. Why? Aren’t we always bragging how huge and influential our US diaspora is?

I’m not even coming down on either side of this argument about the St. Patrick’s day visit. I just wish we’d stop finding excuses for cowardice and lack of faith in ourselves. We need to stop being such brown-nosing, boot licking, sycophants. It’s pathetic.

  20. It’s catch-22. If we don’t go then Trump will make a show of us. If we do go then Trump will make a show of us. There’s real potential for a diplomatic incident here. I wonder if we can get Catríona Perry to show up and distract Trump, remind him that she’s Irish too.

  21. Why do they even bother reporting what these idiots say. Of course we are going to the US on St Patrick’s Day, of course we are going to prioritise our relationship with the US.
FDI from the US is where the money for generous social welfare and grotesquely inefficient public sector comes from .
