  1. Energy Supply has to be cheap and safe.
The difference is: China has direct access to uranium mines – Germany doesn’t. That makes nuclear energy supply in Germany dependent (less safe) and less cheap.

  2. Wouldnt that make more sense as a “% of total power produced”?

  3. So what? We’re booming in renewable energy, they’ll boom nuclearly. As long as their fallout doesn’t reach us, they can do what they want (even glow green in the dark).

  4. Ok, so we have one country that no longer relies on nuclear energy and one that is investing more in it. What’s the point ?

  5. You know, all the Germany bashing because of their Nuclear strategy is getting really boring now. Yes we know they closed their Nuclear reactors and yes China is building more. How often do poeple want to post it? You think something changes just because someone posts another comparsion that doesn’t make sense?

  6. This chart is absolutely dumb.

    • Doesn’t take into account how large the countries are

    • Doesn’t show what % of the total production nuclear actually makes up

    • Doesn’t put it into context with the growth of other forms of electricity ([even in China, renewables are absolutely dwarfing nuclear](https://www.enerdata.net/publications/daily-energy-news/china-installs-record-capacity-solar-45-and-wind-18-2024.html))

It’s low IQ propaganda “Look how big the chinese graph is, look how Germany goes down lololo”

  7. One if the dumbest, Most shortsighted things our politicians ever decided.

    Concerns about nuclear waste?
    Fair

Reduce share of nuclear power in favor of renewables?
    Fair

Total phaseout and delete german Expertise in this field?
    totally fucking dumb

  8. Wow, 2,5 times the power output from China compared to Germany. What an utter useless picture. And misleading.

  9. One more prove that Merkel was sucker. Not only of Putins sucker

  10. That’s one thing I agreed with Trump on. He told Germany in a meeting, he thought it was inappropriate that their NATO ally was funneling money to a country that’s considered an enemy (frenemy at the time). All the while having the USA protecting them from said frenemy. Quite right too, so I’ll give him that one. Germany scored a major own goal by closing their nuclear plants and using Russian gas instead. It also knocked their green targets way off.

  11. Nuclear energy is the only thing that unites oil companies and environmental activists. And we can see the result in Germany.

  12. Smart one vs. stupid one. In few years half of Germany industry will be in China. Every day without wind others countries in EU need to rescue them with electricity.

  13. Why is there so much hate in the comments for nuclear power? The total phase out of nuclear energy in Germany is clearly a climate disaster and the coal plants and gas dependence it led to was terrible. Not only because of Russia’s supply of gas, but the carbon emissions from these have caused more health issues and deaths than a POSSIBLE (unlikely in Germany) nuclear meltdown would have caused.

  14. And even with that huge construction push, China cannot make nuclear power economically competitive.

There was a time when nuclear power was a good idea. Keeping old nuclear power plants running for as long as it possible makes economic and environmental sense, and it was not a super smart decision for Germany to shut them down prematurely. But it is not the catastrophe nuclear fanboys (I used to be one myself) make it out to be.

  15. Just so everyone knows, China currently has about 5% energy generated from nuclear. And Germany at its peak around 2000 was at 30% nuclear.

  16. Germans in this thread:

    1. This chart is dumb because I don’t like it.
    2. China is a different country!
    3. You guys are just mean!

  17. Germany’s abandonment of nuclear energy is the same as Brexit: Stupid populist ideas that were made without any rationality and full of mis/disinformation.

  18. Known for their excellent quality control and toxic baby products, I simply cannot see this going wrong.

If anything bad happens, I’m sure they’ll warn everyone and make sure the world is safe – just look at how wonderfully they handled Covid.

  19. Why is EU so stupid and don’t invest in nuclear energy. Yes there were Chernobyl but only lessons from it os dont five rusians nuclear power. They had more accidents though hostory then rest of the world combined. Chernobyl was just to massive to hide. If you give monkey a grenade it’ll explode eventually. And if you keep monkey in cage instead it won’t. And then there won’t be decades of debate about safety of nuclear energy. If you make it safe way in most likely won’t blow like in shity soviet union. If you read history of construction of Chernobyl station youd know what happened. If shortly. They ceaped on everything from start and ised not the most competent staff plus hidden reactor design flaws was kept secret. One night they’re luck just ran out. And now half the world is sitting on cheap chinas staff and EU went crazy on “green” energy

  20. “china boom to 2%, explodes further to 3% in the next decade”

    ah yes, I love scaling

  21. Idea of that many nuclear powerplants with shoddy Chinese maintanance practices and even shoddier Chinese construction practices fills me with dread.

I’m not normally one for the anti-nuclear insanity, that Germany is strangling itself with, but with China…

I wouldn’t trust them to not blow up a tea kettle. Much less a nuclear powerplant.

  22. China aside, still sad to see Germany be dumb about energy sources 🙁

  23. Funniest of all, Germany did this to itself. It’s completely self-inflicted.

  24. Energy mix aside, it’s worth noting that China is deploying safer and far more efficient nuclear power plants with its latest technology.

  25. Im getting tired if post like

    – “check out how fucked up Germany’s car industry is”

-“Germany’s wind power bet is costing them €€€€€&”

    – “Just say something bad about Germany”

-“Kick Germany now that they’re down a bit! Look at this data”

In the Eastern Europe we have a saying “horses don’t die when dogs wish it”. Germany is Germany and they will be fine. They’ll power through this phase.

  26. Knowing china and knowing European politicians, I wouldn’t b surprised if china buys individual politicians in Europe so they’ll make their countries more dependent on china.
