Hi everyone! Sorry if this is not the right place, I am fairly new in Germany and I would like to go on the long weekends ahead to new places. We have Komoot but there are infinite hiking trails so we are looking for recommendations. We are in Cologne but I’m willing to drive anywhere in Germany (maybe even Switzerland). Thanks so much in advance for your suggestions.

Have a look at Eifel and Sauerland.
Hermannshöhen (Teutoburger Wald), Sauerland, Eifel
A bit more North: Harz
Here is an important information if you don’t do it already:
Keep your dog on a leash if you go out into national parks and every other area when it’s springtime to autumn. Dogs are a real danger to ground nesting birds and other young animals during that time. Keeping them on paths is a very important way to keep young animals safe.
If you keep to this rule I can highly recommend you the Harz mountains. They are surrounded by historic medieval towns that all offer great hiking routes up the mountain range. The higherst peaks are a national park and are quite unique in Germany in terms of landscape. Since the bark beetle went through large parts of the spruce forests you will now often see landscapes that are more akin to the scottish highlands. Especially in foggy spring and autumn the area can look quite spooky and unique.
And if you want a challenge: there is a stamp booklet for the Harz mountains wich contains 222 stamp collection stations. If you get a certain number of stamps, you can buy a decorated pin to show off how much of a hiker you are :). It’s called “Harzer Wandernadel” and is available in all major tourist shops in the region.
Sorry, I have nothing to contribute to you r question (I’m from Austria) but what a cute dog!
