LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – A special guest judge helped shine a spotlight on young scientists at Tuesday Harmony’s annual science fair.
KGNS’ own Yolanda Villarreal had the unique honor of returning to her roots as a judge, invited by her former first-grade teacher, Ms. Sally Garza. Students eagerly presented their inventions and research projects, showcasing their creativity and scientific curiosity.
The top three winning projects addressed real-world environmental challenges:
🥇 First Place: A project focused on protecting coastal areas from hurricanes.
🥈 Second Place: A “salty solution” experiment exploring methods to desalinate ocean water as a potential new water resource.
🥉 Third Place: A project dedicated to cleaning up oil spills.
Villarreal was impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and innovation, sharing her excitement during the morning show: “You guys are superstars!”
