It’s bad enough that buying a house is hard enough, but you buy a new build and this happens… (twitter thread)
Bit of a heads up for anyone considering buying a house from @CairnHomes, I got the keys to my new house in Mariavilla in December 2019. There has been numerous issues with many of the houses in this estate. This is the latest one and after contacting Cairn customer care I was… pic.twitter.com/xoCLtRJlzm

Shit and everything, so by all means spread the word.
But three years in making new complaints about the workmanship is taking the piss.
That’s what your snag is for.
How did this pass snagging? Or surveyor inspection
3 years in 😂. Probably right that it was shoddy but you either catch this before or fix yourself now.
Wait till you hear about the mica/pyrite scandals
What caused the leak? Leak could happen after 3 days never mind 3 years is all. Warranty should be covered for 7-10 years I thought though?
Unusual enough even if they did puncture the felt. I presume it looks fine from the street ?
Had a colleague buy a house in that estate last year, nails in the radiator pipe that they discovered when they were taking off the skirting boards to put in floors iirc. Nails are an issue here again it seems :/
Did you get homebond insurance? Could be covered by that…
I’d also recommend checking for a structural warranty.
iirc the roof leaking is considered structural, as is waste (plumbing)
You have more consumer rights buying a packet of crisps than buying a home.
Water in the wall and an unpleasant smell here was traced to builders not connecting pipes. Yes, a pipe was just pouring liquid out. Found after deconstructing wall.
The guy lives on my road. Everyone has lost faith in Cairn in general. The way they approach stuff is insane and will deflect any responsibility if they can.
We’ve thankfully been very lucky with our house, but some of the shite people have had to deal with is crazy.
This is my house, what annoyed me is when I contacted Cairn customer care the reply basically was piss off. No way should this be happening this early into owning this house
Modern estate houses are thrown up super quick with the bare minimum of effort. I know a few guys involved in the trade and most of them only do new home builds as a nixer while their main source of income is extensions/renovations where they get paid a lot more and work to a higher standard(Good referrals are key to winning tenders). Also hear stories that most people involved in new estate builds are new to their trade or don’t even have one so their labour is cheap, they get experience and they’re more likely to make mistakes.
Is there anyway you can get all residents together with examples of all the issues and get a solicitor to fight this for you? That’s what I would be looking at. Fuck that. The house I live in is 30 years old and we haven’t had a single problem in 5 years. It’s true what they say about some new builds just being flung together unfortunately.
