What’s the deal with the red moon?

  1. Sun issues two main wave light colours, blue and red. Red moons happen when the blue light bounces off the atmosphere.

Happens about twice a year I think? It’s a lunar eclipse

  2. “They say the smog is the reason we have such beautiful sunsets”

  3. Educated American here. It’s an orange moon. We humbly apologize for our failure to educate our poor.

  4. Wow this looks just like the view I had when I lived at scape on the Queen Mary campus. Haha takes me back to a few years ago.

  5. Bloody Tories are sacrificing children to the moon again

  6. Dust in the atmosphere absorbs the blue hues from the white light emitted by the sun (and in this case reflected by the moon). Just like the sun, the moon looks redder as it gets closer to the horizon because you’re looking through a thicker layer of atmosphere compared to when you look straight up, hence more blue is removed. Also the moon looks bigger near the horizon , but that’s just an optical illusion due to it being seen near small buildings, trees, and far away clouds. Basically the moon does what the orange dot is doing here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/Mond-vergleich.svg

  7. Is this the next thing Sadiq will charge visitors for.
