DAA accused of ‘money grab’ over planned drop-off and collection charges at Dublin Airport

  1. No shit, Sherlock.

Edit; Still waiting for the East Link bridge’s tolls to cease, as promised a few decades ago…

  2. DAA’s business model is “Carpark first, airport second”. Hence why there’s still no train link to the airport.

  3. This is the kind of thing you introduce when the airport Metro/LUAS station is open and fully operational.

You don’t introduce without adequate alternatives for the public

  4. > The DAA says the charges are being introduced as part of its “sustainability agenda” and they aim to “reduce car journeys to and from the airport and to encourage passengers to make greater use of public transport.

The Airlink has been cut, leaving the Aircoach as the only express link to the city centre as far as I know. The 16 detours into Beaumont and adds a pointless 20+ minutes to the journey when Beaumont could be better served by other routes. Dublin Bus can only accept so much luggage on board. Once they hit that, you have to wait for the next bus. Until the public transport options are increased and made more user friendly, then the DAA shouldn’t be charging for drop-offs.

  5. The first bus arrives into the airport after the first outbound flight has left. The last bus leaves before the last inbound flight arrives.

I’ll let you make up your own minds if this is about sustainability or a money grab.

  6. Cork airport already has this, it’s annoying. Never seen it at any other airport I’ve flown into really… Flew in the other day and there was no taxis coming and the bus only goes one way through the city so what do they want people to do? Farce

  7. Everything to do with air travel has become so much hassle.

It’s like I need to take a two week training course to get a flight these days.

  8. Excuse me, what? Charging for dropping off or collecting someone?

I could understand if the place was finding it difficult to cope with an overwhelming amount of traffic but it’s not. The absolute fucking cheek. I swear this country would tax breathing if they could figure out the logistics.

  9. If they do this people will walk out to the road with their bags to get picked up at the roundabout outside the airport.

We’re the cheapest pack of spas that exist.

  10. Even if you live in Dublin city centre, public transport to the airport isn’t always possible. Now imagine how big if an FU this is to people outside of Dublin.

Public transport (bus to the airport for example) outside of Dublin often runs an hour late and is sometimes full. When you have a flight to catch this isn’t a risk you can take.

  11. if you’re not going to dublin, cork, limerick or galway then you’re getting on some fucked bus that will have a million stops. Adding a cost for someone coming to collect isn’t going to stop them its just going to make their trip more expensive.

  12. Is there a petition against this? We have petitions for everything now but this is something it could actually make a difference in

  13. Charge everyone out their hole for absolutely everything and give nothing back in return

Just going along as normal it seems

  14. Where’s the toll going to be? There’s a swimming pool next to terminal 2 that’s used by the public are they going to be charged for this as well? If not, what’s stopping people from simply walking that extra little bit?

  15. The pick up/drop off thing isn’t even a big deal. There’s enough lanes that it doesn’t cause traffic really.

  16. Wouldn’t mind this if I had the option of a Luas, or Metro, or Dart, or Train or not queueing 40 minutes on a Bus or being gouged by Taxi drivers. I don’t so I fucking hate it.

  17. I had a 6:30 flight on Thursday.
The buses I could have gotten stopped service at midnight and resumed and 5:30.

Literally had no way of getting to the airport via public transport.

  18. I get they might want to discourage people from taking up the set down only area. That why you get a €10 fee after 10 minutes in Cork Airport. That being said if you are literally throwing someone out of your car and not going in, that’s ridiculous that you’ve to pay as much as Johnny next to you who’s gone in for a full meal before their passenger gets going.

My dad’s a bus driver that used to service Cork to Dublin Airport. Used to because bus eireann had so much competition they just Said scrap a service that stops in all the smaller towns on the way up.

  19. Not from where I see it . It smacks of a poor man’s tax . Rich people won’t be affected at all irrespective of the amount . They’ll pay . Poorer people will have to trek halfway around Dublin with luggage in tow

  20. The best thing to do is never spend a cent at the restaurants or shops in the airport. Prepare something to eat at home and bring it with you
