Double standards

  1. Conservatives don’t view the world through the morality of actions, they view it through the morality of sides.

It’s why they so easily fall for fascist “Us vs. Them” narratives.

  2. Others have helped me come to grips with this: stop focusing on their hypocrisy. Conservatives at the core hold this single concept: “There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

Any time you point out the hypocrisy you’re buying into a false narrative that they believe in consistency. They do not. They want to get away with things that others cannot. They want to break rules while keeping others from being able to do the same. The privilege is the point. The cruelty is the point.

Any time they argue, it’s in bad faith. They don’t care about being fair. They don’t care about being logical. It’s about being part of the special group and getting special treatment.
It’s also why they love and worship Trump. He is the king of privilege, of trying to deprive others of luxuries he enjoys. He is the emperor of inconsistency and the master of evading consequences.

Consequences for thee and not for me.

Socialism for me and not for thee.

It’s fine to recognise hypocrisy, but just know that it is a feature and a goal to them. Like McConnell when he gets called out for doing the very things he prevented Democrats from doing, they will smile. They will relish it.

But in some small way, I think some understand that it’s unethical. So they tell themselves that democrats do it too. They convince themselves that THEY’re the victims, the deprived, the downtrodden. So that any amount of guilt that might remain when they wallow in hypocrisy can be snuffed out.

  3. It’s almost as though their arguments have never been in good faith. Oh wait, it’s exactly like that.

  4. In my life, I have met an awful number of people who don’t even know what the Constitution they claim to love and defend even says. Often, they cherry pick words to meet what they want it to say.

For example, they say ” nowhere in the Constitution do the words ‘separation of church and state’ appear”. Technically correct. But their eyes glaze over when you point out it does say that Congress isn’t allowed to create a state religion. Or the ever popular ” it says freedom of religion, not freedom from religon” to justify discrimination against atheists.

  5. You have to understand. A lot of the conservatives are miserable people, they are unhappy with their lot in life.

So what gives them joy is seeing other people they dislike getting hurt, even if it hurts them too. Cut off your nose to spite your face energy.

  6. Anyone remember when t_d’s collective userbase had an absolute meltdown because Trump said something indicating he might support some gun control?

  7. The foundation of modern conservatism is fuck everyone else, what’s in it for me.

The sort of people that sort of toxic, self-serving agenda would attract would not be our best or our brightest.
