“In this geopolitical situation, we are cooperating increasingly closely with Sweden in the field of security and defense,” said Siliņa. The Prime Minister emphasized that both countries share the vision that Europe urgently needs to invest more in security and the development of the military industry.
“Both within NATO and the European Union, we continue to cooperate together to strengthen the security of critical infrastructure, common defense capabilities, and support for Ukraine. Sweden’s membership in NATO and military presence in Latvia will give additional impetus to the development of our military industries,” said the Latvian Prime Minister.
During their bilateral talks, the prime ministers of both countries also discussed promoting economic cooperation. “Our common priority within the European Union is increasing competitiveness and reducing bureaucracy by promoting cross-border cooperation. Sweden is the largest investor in the Latvian economy, and we will continue to strengthen our economic cooperation,” said Siliņa.
The meeting took place after the two prime ministers jointly participated in a ceremony in Ādaži, marking the addition of Swedish troops to the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia.
