It will be a makeup game for both teams after dozens of Mankato West’s hockey sticks were stolen from their team bus while playing in Duluth.

ST PAUL, Minn. — After dozens of their sticks were stolen while participating in a holiday tournament in Duluth, the Mankato West boys hockey team will finally have a chance to make up the game they were forced to postpone with an assist going to the Minnesota Wild.

The Wild announced Friday that they would host Mankato West and Anoka on Monday, Feb. 10 at the Xcel Energy Center, to make up the game originally scheduled for Dec. 28 as part of the Heritage Holiday Classic in Duluth. The game was ultimately postponed after the sticks were stolen from Mankato West’s bus the night before.

Most of the sticks were recovered and a 23-year-old has been charged, but now Mankato West and Anoka will get a chance to play on the state’s biggest stage with a few additional perks.

According to Wild officials, the team will include several of their traditional game-day elements, including Nordy, their PA announcer Adam Abrams, national anthem singer John deCausemeaker and DJ. The game, which is slated for 7 p.m., will be free and open to the public.
