Gramp's jacket from ww2, maybe someone here knows what the ribbon items on it are for?

  1. While I don’t know about those exact ribbons, they’re usually given with correaponding medals. At least now they are. There weren’t any medals or medal certificates left from your grampa?

  2. The ribbon colours are same as in winter war and continuation war medals.

  3. Not a Fin, but question got me looking and if I’m wrong then please correct me. It looks like the red and black one is the Winter War medal. One source says the other is for the Winter War as well

  4. The rightmost is Winter War memorial medal ribbon. Left one could be ribbon for Vapaudenmitali VM2. Vapaudenmitali VM2 was probably the most common decoration for non-officers (the jacket has sergeant insignia) and was given for some merit.

You might be able to find your granpa’s registration card from the archive if you want more info. Unfortunately [archive query](https://kansallisarkisto.fi/tilaa-kantakortti) requires Finnish authentication.

You can also [check here first](https://www.sotapolku.fi/henkilot/), but by default it only has info about those who died in the wars.

  5. From left to right:

Order of the Cross of Liberty, Bronze Medal 2nd
    Class

    and

WW2 Commemorative Medal for the Winter War
    against the Soviet Union (1939-1940).
