1 is weird enough. 2 is like.. weird that it happened twice, but no.. I’ve counted at least 9 pyramids in Ireland that I will now list. HOW. I mean I know how, but jesus. 9 pyramids in Ireland, never heard anyone mention them in my life. Technically 10 if you include one that’s rectangular bricks stacked into a pyramid shape as a sculpture.

  1. If they’re from around the same time and all private folly’s/monuments then* it’s probably down to the rage in all things Ancient Egyptian in the early 20th century. Money doesn’t buy taste

  2. There’s one in Mayo, it’s on the way from ballinrobe towards cong, I can’t remember the name of the village. I think it’s memorial for a dead soldier, someone from the area probably has a lot more information on it.

  3. The reformation and enlightenment passed us by. So in the mid 1800’s when the aristocrats were bringing back details and artifacts of much older eastern religions from their grand tours there was an appetite here. It was trendy to be into the occult or esoteric.

  4. Freemasonry has a long history in Ireland, many high profile members of society, including architects, and members of government have been members of the Freemasons, as far as I know some of these pyramids stand as monuments for deceased members.
