  1. It’s the family crest pin for the family surname of Fletcher. It might be a kilt pin but these ones are usually too light to weigh a kilt down enough. More likely to be lighter material and a decorative pin/badge/brooch

  2. Alta Pete means aim high and is a motto used by some Scottish clans, Clan Fletcher in this case. Likely a tourist piece.

  3. These used to be part of a selection of brooches and pins available in various gift shops, usually on a rotating carousel. Sorry to disappoint!

  4. Yeah, you can buy these at most scottish tourist [shops](https://clan.com/family/fletcher). Each Scottish clan has a coat of arms and its own motto which is what this brooch depicts. There are different lineages from which the coat of arms descend which is why some of the crests and mottos differ slightly.

  5. The ‘Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs’ is/was a self-appointed body with no authority in law over heraldry. The actual body for that is the Court of the Lord Lyon.

The word ‘device’ in this context is heraldic and should be read as ’emblem’.

The actual broach is not an ancient contraption and not worth more than the component metal.

Still, while common tourist tat here, it may be a neat thing to have in cali!

  6. I’ve reached out to the Standing Council Of Scottish Chiefs, they’ll get back to me tomorrow after the grand ballahoulish.

You may be able to claim chiefdom of a clan.

  7. It’s a magic talisman. If you get a wild haggis to accept it as a gift then you can pass through the secret gate at the bottom of Loch Ness. Beyond the gate you can join Jack and Victor at the Clansman for a pint.

  8. Looks like an ornamental kilt pin. I have two for my Clan Heritage (my partner accidentally bought me a duplicate because he forgot I already had one lol).

  9. “Alta Pete” in Argentina means top blow job.

  10. I have several clan crests that go over your sash or on your kilt. I don’t know this clan but yeah you can get them in most shops in Glasgow and Edinburgh
