  1. So yesterday Japans premier **Shigeru Ishiba** bowed for nothing.

    Other world leaders should watch. You don‘t negotiate with bullies. You hit them as hard as you can with the first punch.

  2. Then what’s the point of negotiating. We are a laughing stock now

  3. Can we get some of those Toyota IMV 0’s in Canada? Having awesome affordable trucks will really stick it to the Americans.

  4. I really didn’t understood the meaning with this meeting in the first place.

  5. Any chance Japan’s PM has the balls not to play along with Trump’s ego games and refuse to let him think that he “won”?

  6. Japan and the rest of the world, cut your ties with the u.s. let that country fall and burn, it’s what these elites and their poorly educated base wants

  7. When you have economic uncertainty and political unrest, you will lose foreign investment. When Trump wanted more investment in the country, he went terrible way about it by initiating trade wars that didn’t need to happens. While it makes headlines, the people in the background (business sector) are now rethinking if they want to jeapordize millions/billions in investment in their country. Even if they do some development there, what’s stopping the USA from having retaliatory tariffs placed on them and now it’s more expensive for people wanting to export.

    Given how much US companies have basically relocated manufacturing to different countries, it will be painful. Now you got a government who isn’t trusted and an industry who doesn’t know where things will end up.

  8. Wait didn’t I read this morning that Japan did a economic alliance with the United States against China or something?

  9. I want out of this country so bad, preferably before we are all seen as enemies and idiots.

  10. Let’s hope the US can really be isolated from the rest of the world.

  11. Ok, maybe someone can clarify this for me (and this isn’t a defense of Trump, because I do think he is a disaster).

    But how is everyone up in arms over reciprocal tarrifs – as in, the other nation already has those tariffs in place for goods coming into their country? I completely get being opposed to blanket tariff threats to countries like Canada (especially considering the special relationship the countries share), but if tarrifs are bad when Trump wants to put them in place, then the same logic should apply when other countries already have them.

  12. Did anyone actually look at the article, like, at all? Or even the title.

    I hate Trump as much as any sane person but people seem to be missing what this is entirely.

    This is talking about ‘reciprocal’ tariffs, meaning that any of these tariffs (and yes there are many of the tariff plans by Trump and co. that the following doesn’t apply to but this is not talking about those tariffs) are ones that the other nation is already applying to American goods. It doesn’t seem too unreasonable to take a stance of “if you are making our countries goods less competitive in your country we’ll make yours less competitive in ours”.

  13. Damn, I was planning to purchase a Toyota once my current lease is up.

    …guess I’ll wait a bit longer. No way I’m buying some shit-ass GM vehicle. I don’t think they’re about to re-tool their factories.

  14. The Japanese really want those Ford 250s and Dodge Rams.

  15. So, for those playing along at home, the nations with whom Trump wants to pick simultaneous fights, and their 2024 GDPs in USD, are:

    * All nations in the EU put together (19.40 trillion USD)

    * China (18.28 trillion)

    * Japan (4.07 trillion)

    * The UK (3.59 trillion)

    * Canada (2.21 trillion)

    * Mexico (1.85 trillion)

    * Colombia (1.33 trillion)

    * Panama (0.25 trillion)

    * Greenland (0.003 trillion est)

    With the USA’s 2024 GDP being 29.17 trillion. Have I forgotten anyone?

    The USA is significantly ahead of the nearest competitor (the EU) and can certainly pick everyone apart *if they’re dumb enough to try facing it alone*.

    Even assuming that nobody invites China to the tag team, even just the EU, Japan, UK and Canada would have a higher combined GDP than the USA. No team-up works without both China AND the EU, though. You have to pick at least one.

    So yeah, if the rest of the world is dumb, this *could* wind up being a successful strategy for Trump. If.

  16. Looks like the minimum price of a Switch 2 *won’t* be $380-$400.

  17. Anyone remember when USA passed the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act in 1930… and then Japan kicked off their campaign to take over Asia to get resources for their empire?

    And USA kicked off their decade of economic depression…
    Was America considered great at that point? Because Trump is making America great again.

  18. As he continues his assault on American allies, while sucking up to our enemies.

    Totally normal. Definitely not intentionally sabotaging.

  19. Paywalled but if Japan is already charging tarriffs on our goods isn’t charging the same tarriffs to them just pretty standard stuff?

  20. I don’t understand all this hostility to allies of the United States

  21. So? Reciprocal tariffs seem like a fair thing, don’t they?

  22. It is just evening the tariffs out. At 3.2% (what Japan has for American products) I hope people here can read. Sure it is bad but in the grand scheme of things 3.2% means nothing.

    I disagree with Trump but everyone here is treating this like the end of US Japan partnership.

  23. Wouldnt be surprised if the folks over ar /r/Conservative are like “yeah this is good news cause ummmm because

  24. Dumb ass Donny keeps hurting all the Midwest farmers that are a big part of the republican base it’s going to be the biggest ever landslide loss for republicans in the midterm elections!

  25. Just came back from living in Japan for five years. Yokohama and Tokyo to be exact. The amount of American cars there is negligible. Seriously, very very very I mean VERY few are on the road. Hell, you see at least 10 times more French cars than American ones. Farm goods I can’t speak for, but all the farming equipment I saw on the farms that ran along the river by my last house (suburban Kanagawa) was pretty much all domestic. Never once saw John Deere anything for example. As far anything else farm related I have no idea because I’m not a farmer. Anyway, that’s my anecdote. Believe me or not, I don’t care 🤷‍♂️
