“In the letter seen by RTÉ News, Fuels for Ireland CEO Kevin McPartlan said it is “simply not the case” that Fuels for Ireland members had been engaged in any sort of profiteering.”

>Mr McPartlan also claimed that the official messaging from the Government that the excise duty reduction would take effect from midnight on Wednesday had given people a false impression that prices would reduce immediately.
>He stated that this was impossible as excise on the supplies in forecourts had already been paid and this had been flagged in advance
Then how did they skyrocket up so quickly?
Does the rate they pay wholesale match the price at the pumps, surely all they have to do is release those figures show they’re not a bunch of gouging cunts.
“We have investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing”
100% are, maxol garage has their prices at 1.98 for petrol, 2.04 for diesel, 5 mins down the road applegreen have both 20 cent cheaper.
Driving into work Wednesday morning at 8.30. Petrol price in Circle K was €1.99.9. Government announced the reduction a few hours later. Driving home for lunch at 2 and the price had jumped to €2.14.9. Explain that Mr 🤔
Doubt, no wait wait I mean lie
I’ve noticed the price of briquettes has jumped too. Presumably because more people are buying them instead of oil. Now without checking I’d be pretty confident that we import zero peat from eastern Europe so how is that anything but price gouging
The govt take 57 euro for every 100 quid of fuel, god forbid they didn’t tax us into a fucking grave.
The day after the excise cut I didn’t see a single forecourt drop their prices, diesel went up 8c in my local. So somehow the price went up by 23c overnight?
How fucking broken is RTE? Shouldn’t they have an interest or maybe even a responsibility to do some investigation and reporting on price gouging?
Like if the Taoiseach is talking about it in the Dail shouldn’t a lightbulb be going off in someone’s head in RTE? Shouldn’t it strike someone that it’s in the public interest and they’re the public broadcaster?
But instead they sit on their arse and then print the response of the industry body without even questioning any of it or explaining exactly who Fuels for Ireland are.
It’s bizarre.
RTE 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I looked at the great President Bush. I said to him you know I want to be sure to be sure and he assured me. Couldn’t do any more than that.
Bertie Ahern being assured that Shannon wasn’t being used for torture flights.
How is it then that the most expensive petrol station in my town is 15c dearer for a litre of petrol than the cheapest?
I mean driving around north Dublin city yesterday I was seeing in some cases over a TWENTY cent different in petrol prices, low of 1.81 and high of over 2eur. Someone has clearly not passed the excise cut onto consumers.
I smell something here, and it’s not petrol it’s bullshit.
Apple went down on road towards and out of Julianstown (Meath) to €1.84 for petrol, diesel was still at €1.99. Petrol was €2.04 on Wednesday. There could be a delay on diesel.
I’m not robing you says the guy with his hand in yoor pockets.
This is where RTE could do something like a fact check/proper investigative journalism in the interest of the public.
Just take my word won’t ya?
Oil being tied to closely to the economy is ridiculous. And if it must be this way, it should in no way be tied to the whims of private corporations. Shouldn’t be a fucking profit matter
Yes, and Russia isn’t bombing maternity hospitals deliberately.
Bull Fucking Shit.
Oh cool. That settles that then.
Ah of course , it’s just the like insurance industry has been doing nothing wrong this whole time either
Sooner we burn this place down and rebuild the better
Like the landlords on this lovely little island of ours, the petrol industry is politically very well connected. They’re all a cabal, whose only goal is wealth accumulation and pushing the majority into poverty. Prices are going to keep rising, not because of putin, only because the cabal want to accumulate more cash and assets before the digital euro arrives.
We the majority need to wise up quickly for our own futures and that of our kids.
Bullshit.
And the government will let them away without even a slap on the wrist.
People should start using Waze. It’s like Google maps and owned by Google, but uses crowdsourced info on fuel pump prices, speed cameras and stuff. It works so well in the states and uk but so few use it in Ireland 😤
Circle k in Frankfield, Cork has dropped their price by the cut to the duty and have gone from being one of the most expensive to being one of the cheapest.(pity I filled the car 2 days ago.) On the other hand diesel at the garage on the south link road, who would traditionally be the cheapest, has increased it’s prices and is now at 2.11 a litre.
Listening to Kevin McPartlan there on RTÉ this morning, a lot of what he said did align with what I have heard from technicians when I worked at the counter at Esso.
There’s very little mark-up on fuel, his point about getting people to buy a coffee being far more profitable is accurate from what I understand. And companies are buying vast quantities of fuel at vastly different prices everyday, the reason Applegreen is usually cheaper is because they just buy whatever is cheapest on the day, I’d avoid going there because they would be mixing different fuels from different sources, which just isn’t good for an engine or fuel economy if different quality fuels are exploding at different rates in your car.
And his point that their prices are on big numbered signs at their entrances really shows how this whole point about price gouging doesn’t hold water, the last thing they want is to put up their fuel prices, cause you’ll just go somewhere else.
At every corporate training shite I did, they didn’t give a toss about us selling fuel, they wanted us to sell car washes and coffee, the fuel was just to get you in the door.
Plus the government highlighting the hundreds of millions of losses due to the 15c drop, when fuel costs jumped 75c+, so they’re actually making more regardless. Plus the price gougers mean the 15c doesn’t even matter in a lot of cases.
A drive around Dublin 15 last night, petrol 1.81, 1.84, 190, 199 in the four garages I passed.
Awww ❤️❤️❤️ Free press owned by corporations. Loving it.
Here’s what I don’t get. If they are price gouging (and I believe they are), why isn’t competition driving the price down? If I was running a garage and every other garage around has the cost artificially high, wouldn’t reducing my own price make me instantly one of the most popular garages around?
Also, can someone make a new pumps.ie? The old one is only being kept afloat by existing users. Can’t register a new account anymore, and you can’t update the prices without an account. Prices are going to be shit for a while so it’s definitely needed. Not a small ask I know but there’s definitely someone who could do it.
Well if you think this reporting is a bit fishy watch the 2010 film/documentary The Pipe
All the big oil companies have a 40% profit margin right now… RTE can eat a dick with this false bullshit article.
