Found this on a beach – how old do we reckon it is?

  1. Wow, usually everything I find on the beach is worthless rubbish, but that right there is the Real McCoy

  2. That looks like a best before December 2000, so it’s probably about 25 years and a bit.

  3. I adored these. If it still smells of the contents, I’ll buy that off you.

  4. Definitely 90’s my favourite McCoy’s were always flame grilled steak.

  5. Bit depressing to realise that it’s something like thirty years old. And that millions of similar crisp packets get tossed onto our verges, hedges, and pavements every year.

I make a bit of a hobby in picking up litter on my country walks, and it’s shameful how much snack-related litter I find in what is otherwise a lovely landscape.

  6. I think late 80s/early 90s. McCoys have been my favourite crisps since I was a kid (I was born mid 90s) and I have never seen the packaging design like this. The current packaging (or a similar take on it) is all I’ve ever known

  7. Just look at the best before date. Clearly says “1200” so that would make it over 800 years old. I think you have to sell it to the government if it’s that old.

  8. This being decades old and being found now at a beach is just awful 🙁

  9. Early Jurassic definitely, dinosaurs wouldn’t survive with fake mcCoys

  10. This is why I love this sub. Others would be complaining about the rubbish or the state of the beaches. On here it’s like archaeologists unearthing hidden treasures 😀

  11. I can remember how great these were. Must be 30+ years ago.

  12. The best before date says 12 Oct, and best befores tend to always be a Saturday on crisps right?

Assuming this is true it narrows it down to:

    ’85, ’91, ’96, ’02

Others seem too new or too old.

  13. Are they foil wrapped or just plastic? That might help date it more!

  14. No website URL on the packet would place it mid-90s or earlier IMO.

  15. Send the pack back for the refund and see if they pay you in Shillings

  16. Old enough that I remember having these from the school vending machine

    Maybe 25 years ago?

  17. I remember them looking like this, pretty sure it’s mid 90s.

  18. Crazy how that’s the old normal size (40g), and now it’s only 25g.
However I think the grab bags are similar

  19. I’m sure I used to munch these at uni, so 93ish – not sure when they were discontinued though.

Remember when I was sorting my back garden, pulled a tree up and the roots were entwined with crisp and chocolate packets, clarty gits.

  20. …I just had a Ratatouille style flashback seeing this

  21. It comes from a 6 pack – which was discontinued sometime around 2010, so at least 15 years possibly more years old

  22. Early 1990s. Thinking back in terms of branding it’s an older packet. Plus there is no website information
