It’s one of the things about the Trumpian behavior – say something outrageous. If it works out – it was all part of a master plan. If it doesn’t work out – try to play it off as only joking. If it backfires – double down with something even more outrageous. It’s bullying behavior 100%.
Trudeau is absolutely correct that it should be taken seriously. Giving a shitheel like the Trumpanzee any benefit of the doubt is exactly why we are in this mess right now.

Canada being a US state (if it is only 1) is just a horrifically bad idea on so many levels:
– Extreme underrepresentation in the Senate
– More guns = more deaths, suicide and homicide
– Private healthcare is a cost borne by the unfortunate sick people, especially those who can’t work
– Social Security is facing some kind of solvency crisis that is extremely well known because it is a pyramid scheme. Canada Pension Plan doesn’t have those problems because of overfunding and little benefits. This means we would try to bail out the Americans, but because we are so much smaller, we can’t save them
– Chaos in Quebec as the culture is derived from French culture. I don’t think there would be enough federal employees fluent in French to provide services (think IRS, SSA, FBI, etc…) in that language

I remember saying Canada needs nukes as a deterrent and got down voted to hell. I still stand by that believe and it hasn’t waiver for a moment. The threat is real and bullies only respect one thing. The thing that gets me the most is the severity of the situation. OBVIOUSLY you can’t just annex a sovereign country, so that implies other methods
As a middle aged average Canadian civilian, if the US were to invade Canada, or even Mexico or Greenland, what sort of practical way could I support our nation or any other defending nation?
If Trump tried to take Canada by force and Canada was willing to put up a fight I see a very real possibility of a few states seceding, and the US being left in complete shambles.

As an American citizen, when we notice members of the family and community and nation exhibiting these levels of chaos and manic behavior, we call in the professionals to help guide that individual through their crisis. That is usually the sane and kind thing to do. For us and for that person. We cannot make sense of their comprehension of reality because it is just not the same as ours. To us, it is bewildering and stressful.
