Russia’s artillery superiority decreased fivefold over past year – Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi: “A year ago, Russian forces had approximately a 10:1 advantage in artillery munitions. Today, this ratio has shrunk to nearly 2:1.”

*He thanked partner countries for supplying ammunition and praised domestic arms manufacturers for increasing production and strengthening the front with weapons and military equipment marked Made in Ukraine.*
*“This was also made possible by our targeted efforts to destroy Russian artillery. Over the past year, we have eliminated around 13,050 Russian artillery systems (compared to 8,400 in the previous two years). Successful counter-battery warfare, combined with drone operations, is putting an end to Russia’s dominance on the battlefield,” the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized.*

I’m curious how this works.
I’m assuming it’s due to russia basically running out of things to shoot the shells with. Any kind of artillery.
Considering how much north korea have helped with giving shells to russia it shouldn’t be shells that is the issue. I’m aware they’re shit and misfire but they do so just the same as the russian standard ones so there’s no real diff to that.
It’s pretty great if it’s simply them running out of artillery though. They can’t really build new due to not being able to produce the proper quality for barrels and if they’re running out it means they have run out of barrels to refurbish from even older equipment so it will be a steep drop this year in terms of artillery balance vs Ukraine.
Russia can’t manufacture enough barrels to offset their losses, so they have to cannibalize their old Soviet stock.
It’s also about accuracy and distance. Modern artillery with 30km range and accuracy combined with drone spotting is much better than 10 old inaccurate howitzers with 10km range.
Russian always relied on numbers, not quality, their barrels are degrading much faster and logistics is worse – you need much more ammo to hit a target.
Those drones with shaped charges tunneling 1cm holes in the sides of those russian artillery barrels probably also affected this.
Russia is really really struggling.

We need that number to be even lower, Commander.
*Something in the range of 0:1*
They certainly got bogged down in a war they thought would only last a few weeks. Has really highlighted how lacking they are.
And Ukraine still can’t reclaim territory with a nearly even artillery playing field?
So by my reasoning, that means in in another year they will -6:1 advantage in artillery. I’ll take it.
