Can’t we just teach kids about Marcus Aurelius and use his meditations as a benchmark for personal reflection and development. They lived at the same time (well not exactly but within 2 generations)

Why hasn’t the State built its own schools on land that it has?
I know it is very popular to rant at the Catholic Church but this issue has been around for years. The solution would have been for the State to build new schools on land owned by the State and for these schools to be multi-denominational or secular.

So money given to the church over the decades by the people of Ireland to build schools for their children, is now going to be rented back to the people who effectively paid for it. Unless Rome paid for the land these schools are on.

This is beyond ridiculous. How long have the public been paying for the maintenance and upkeep of these buildings? Would they even be in existence otherwise? Lets provide funding on a proportional basis and see how that works out in the future..
Who paid for the buildings originally? 1 euro a year ground rent would be more than enough

Can’t we just have schools that don’t normalize religion at all? Have we learned nothing? Get Religion out of schools completely… it has no business there. Also… make the church pay taxes. The Catholic Church is one of the richest organizations in the world and yet is still treated like it needs charity.

We seriously need separation of church and state, with dwindling Church attendance these days they’ll be looking for our tax money to subsidise them next
They should have confiscated every bit of property the had to pay for the redress scheme
Can’t wait for the government to complain about rentung schools, maybe if all our TDs cycle to the dail we can get afford non denominational schools

In a diverse Ireland our schools should all be multi-denominational, In the North where the growth of integrated education has shown a greater understanding among the young of differing cultures, it has led to the ‘fear’ the other side being a laughable concept, religion should be able to cope with change and if it can’t then it says more about the religious orders/ teachers than the whole concept of religion at all.After all we were told about the teachings of tolerance, acceptance, forgiveness by the religious orders.
I was raised Catholic by very Catholic parents, educated by the Christian Brothers, did this lead me into a religious order ,did it fuck, it made me run away from any religion. I’ve raised my kids to respect each person they meet and I’ve left it up to them what way they feel about religion. I have 4 sons 30,25,17 and 14 and 1 daughter 21. And I’m grateful that they are so independent of thought.
All schools should be:
A. Non fee paying
B. Mixed gender
C. Non religious
Any school should be for anyone, get rid of the financial, religious and gender segregation it’s the 21st century.
