Brian Leishman Scottish Labour MP: There’s gov’t money for Ineos to build a refinery in Belgium. There’s gov’t money for Ineos’s owner to redevelop his football stadium. But there’s no gov’t money for the Grangemouth refinery workers, their community & Scotland.

Good on him, he shouldnt need to, but he is showing how impotent Sarwar is in all of this.
If only he was in the party of government….
Sarwar guaranteed they would save it.
Would boil their grannies down for glue for some votes.
Mibbe he could tell Sarwar about this too!
Might I suggest that he stand down as a Labour MP and use his platform as an Independent MP to talk about the deep social and economic impact this closure will have on Falkirk for the decades to come, at every opportunity.
That he lead Grangemouth workers on a march to Westminster, that he continues to attack the iniquity of a plant half owned by the Chinese government to protect their home investments in the production of sustainable air fuel.
Blaming the pocket money parliament is no more than blame shifting. If he has the beliefs that he professes to read from his PA’s laptop, then he really needs to be hammering his own government, Starmer’s Labour government and ask why Rachel Reeves with her third Heathrow runway and determination to use SAF will be buying it from China rather than Scotland.

The ‘Wembley of the North’ bit is expanded further down: “**Labour has been accused of a £1billion betrayal of Grangemouth workers after promising Jim Ratcliffe taxpayer support to redevelop Old Trafford while he closes the refinery.**”
Then he can just resign from Labour.
Well said Brian.
RIP your political career though. Labour HQ will be spin this as anti- Semitic and you’ll be out th door…
Labour really need to do something about Labour.
Is there government money going to the old Trafford redevelopment?
Grangemouth is owned by Petroineos, Petroineos is half-owned by PetroChina, which is a Chinese state-owned company.
The coverage of the whole Grangemouth closure saga by most media outlets has very little, if any, mention of what role the Chinese government might be playing in this.
Why not ? What’s their agenda ? What geopolitical things are going on, that are affecting the outcome ? Why is this barely ever mentioned in the media ?
In any case, Grangemouth is in a bit of an awkward spot, in that much of the facility is older and less efficient. To modernise things would be costly, but how long would it be in operation for, and would it generate enough revenue to justify the investment necessary ? With things like the phase-out of petrol-only vehicles in a decade or so, is there going to be enough demand for refined petroleum products, to justify updating the Grangemouth refinery ?
It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to spend large sums on upgrading a facility that produces something that is supposed to be being phased out.
Except it isn’t a refinery in Belgium. It’s a petrochemical plant.
it isn’t government money, it’s a loan guarantee.
A loan guarantee isn’t going to save Grangemouth.
This is false equivalence in spades.
Which party is in government again?
This guy has been yapping a lot lately but no sign of him resigning for lying to voters.
Likely only talking with permission from London
I mean taxpayer money is going to support the redevelopment around Old Trafford by funding infrastructure works. Rebuilding the stadium itself is being financed privately, mainly by Manchester United. Apart from being wrong, everything he said was right.
Labour under Freebie The Lier is not Labour it’s just another right wing Westminster party. Anas Sarwar was a member of Scottish Labour For Independence. Then he was fully behind Corbyn. Now he is a puppet for Freebie The Lier. He is a loud mouth full of hot air.
About fucking time Scottish Labour started speaking for the people of Scotland. Honestly thought this dude was SNP at the start.
