I’m an international student who applied for the Versicherungsnummer through my employer. However, it looks like there was a mistake—my first name (J) was entered as my surname, and my surname (T) was entered as my first name.

How can I rectify this error?

Does the "J" in my Versicherungsnummer matter? I’ve heard that part of the number is based on the surname. If my names are swapped, could this make it harder to correct, especially since the number is permanent?
Would appreciate any relevant advice. Thanks!

Just contact them, they will also need to change the number as you pointed out.
contact them.
And yes the J in the number itself is made up by the birth name. So yes they have to change it…
