On the occasion of the Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence which opens today in Paris, the iliad Group reaffirms its ambition to be an industrial leader in artificial intelligence in Europe. A total envelope of 3 billion euros has been allocated by the Group to invest in infrastructures dedicated to AI (data centers and computing power), research, and application layers.
OpCore, the subsidiary that operates the Group’s 13 data centers, will invest €2.5 billion to strengthen its position as the European leader in hyperscale data centers dedicated in particular to AI computing resources. To do this, the Group has entered into a partnership with Infravia, a major independent private equity player in Europe. OpCore will thus deploy, in the short term, several hundred megawatts of capacity. The long-term ambition is to build several gigawatts of capacity across Europe.
With Scaleway, its B2B subsidiary dedicated to the cloud, the Group has also invested in the largest marketable computing capacity in Europe for AI. Nearly 5,000 latest-generation GPUs are made available to companies to train and use their models. Scaleway’s references include Mistral AI, H, and Photoroom. Thanks to Scaleway, the best open-source models are also available to all companies in a sovereign and secure cloud environment: Llama (Meta), Moshi (Kyutai), and now Deepseek.
Free and Mistral AI also announced a unique partnership in France. Thanks to this agreement, Free becomes the first operator in the country to offer all its mobile subscribers an AI assistant, with Chat Pro – the new premium version of Mistral AI’s AI assistant – offered exclusively for 12 months. Free’s 15.5 million subscribers will thus be able to benefit free of charge from a cutting-edge AI tool, developed by a French champion and a European leader in AI.
The iliad Group has also co-founded the Kyutai laboratory at the end of 2023, a foundation dedicated to open-science research in AI, by providing it with 100 million euros. The open-source approach, which the iliad Group has always defended, is structuring in the race for AI and is now acclaimed by all market players. In July 2024, the Kyutai team – made up of some of the best AI researchers in the world – unveiled Moshi, an open-source AI model with unprecedented voice capabilities.
Thomas Reynaud, CEO, iliad Group
Within the iliad Group, we have believed for several years in the power of artificial intelligence and we have decided to devote the necessary resources to it. We are investing 3 billion euros across the entire value chain: from data centers to computing power, including open science research, and the democratization of uses with our partnership with Mistral. If we have been multiplying initiatives for 3 years, it is because we are at a decisive moment where our collective future is at stake.
