From HLN:
>Om chaotische toestanden met geparkeerde steps te vermijden, komen er ook parkeerzones. Parkeren kan er verplicht zijn, verboden of toegelaten.
I hope to god this means that space will be made to park those e-scooters and that space won’t be taken away from the limited space pedestrians already have.
-16 year olds is like 70% of the userbase lol.
As someone who has one of those things. Why would anyone even ride on the sidewalk with it?
Also. People with an e-scooter really should be wearing a helmet. I’ve seen how fast some of these kids go and it’s absolutely not slow.
Now actually enforce this please.
wow eindelijk, met twee op een step verboden.
binnekort beschikbaar – een thule voor uw elektrische step!
Took long enough. The people riding these sex offender vehicles keep thinking they own the road.
Yay! About time!
I treat every kid on a scooter as suicidal. I’ve had multiple occasions of almost running kids over. Yesterday one was ghostriding while turning a blind corner. He was going at least 25+. I’ve seen groups of kids carelessly crossing, all in different directions, in front of trams. It honestly amazes me that there haven’t been more accidents.
Almost got ran over by a guy yesterday when walking out of a building. Yes!
Great, another rule that will not be enforced …
Why is incorrect parking a bigger fine than using the side walk? Makes no sense to me.
It’s about time!
As a father who has his 14yr old riding on one I find this to be a bit of a weird rule.. for years kids on regular bikes have been wreaking havoc on public roads and now all of a sudden this is getting prohibited and the regular bikes are being left alone .. what’s the difference between a kid riding 25kph on a bike vs an escooter..? Especially in rural areas like ours…
It would have been a LOT more effective to introduce a “drivers license” from eg 12yrs to be allowed to drive on the public roads unsupervised imho
Probably an unpopular opinion though
Pff facking cry baby’s
These rules are because of accidents and deaths caused by riding them. So in Belgian fashion we won’t actually try to fix the issue but just make a few rules so we can later on say “it’s cause they broke the rules”? Where are the bike lanes? Throwing scooters with small wheels on big roads full of holes will be great, I’m sure!
Finally, no more on the sidewalk. I hope they enforce it too because I constantly need to look backwards now…. i hate e-scooters on the sidewalk
Excellent. E scooters are like silent missiles which cares about nobody. At least this wil regulate them a little and bring peace to padestrians
I think it is good to adapt your laws to reality. However, I would hate to be the 15y old that bought this.
It’s not easy for law makers to do good for everyone and easy to speak from the side bench. But I think it’d be best to start stricter and become more lenient with rules instead of the other way around.
What about 15 year olds?
I never understood why anyone would use them over a bike
sure.
and driving above 120kph or with a gsm in hand is forbidden too.
I drive a speed pedelek 60km. Everyday to work without a license plate, popo realy doesnt care. Nor does my work. Drive carefully dough!
Best news I read this year. The amount of times I’ve been pushed out the way or had to move quickly because of these. Now just need to ban bicycles from the pavements for the same reasons.
Hahahaha. Sure. Except in Brussels
The great thing is that kids won’t use cars instead, and hopefully will learn to use their bikes.
I would say however, increase the availability of bike libraries, for people who cannot afford children’s bikes.
Also, genuine question, this sounds an awful lot like traffic rules. Can the Brussels region just make its own traffic rules? Shouldn’t we update the street code for these vehicles instead? What do our national traffic rules say about this now?
Heh, we’re banning 16 year olds? Boy thats not gonna sit well with the kids.
Mama can I go outside? No, because you’re banned. 🤣😂
To be honest I would love to get a fast mono wheel. Bigger wheels should be better for the average road / bike paths around here. However as you cannot get insurance because they are illegal I am just gonna skip it. I would rather bike and have an average speed over 25km/h
>Het is niet logisch dat een kind van 12 jaar met een toestel mag rijden dat tot 25 kilometer per uur kan
Lmao. In my neighborhood kids that can’t even see over the handlebars race steps that go way over 25kmh. It’s fucking ridiculous.

All in all, good changes.
