Today (March 26th) citizens of Malta go to polls to vote in parliamentary elections!
Maltese parliament (unicameral House of Deputies, *Kamra tad-Deputati* or just *Il-Parlament*) consists of an odd number (nowadays 67) of representatives, elected for a **five**-year term in 13 electoral districts, using the [single transferable vote](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_transferable_vote) system. Additional members are elected in case of disproportionality, if a party with an absolute majority of votes fails to win an absolute majority of seats, while candidates of only **two parties** are elected. And actually this is an usual case, as despite the use of proportional ranked preferential system (instead of FPTP), no third party managed to get into parliament since… 1962.
**Turnout** in last (2017) elections was **92.1**%.
Two parties switching power in Malta are:
Name|Leader|Position|Europarty|2017 result (seats)|Recent polling|**Results**
:–|:–|:–|:–|–:|–:|–:
[Labour Party](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Party_(Malta\)) (PL)|[Robert Abela](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Abela)|centre-left, social democracy|PES|55% (37)|37-44%|TBA
[Nationalist Party](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationalist_Party_(Malta\)) (PN)|[Bernard Grech](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Grech)|centre-right, conservative|EPP|44% (30)|29-32%|TBA
Last two elections (2013 and 2017) were both won by Labour Party, and polls suggest it will probably happen again.
**Further knowledge**
We shall leave detailed commentary (and any interesting trivia!) on elections and campaign, to our Maltese users (all five of them! *sorry, joking*), or anyone else with more knowledge what happens in islands’ politics down there.

If anyone is willing to help (making a post similar to this one, possibly with deeper take) during any of other upcoming elections – 🇭🇺 Hungary and 🇷🇸 Serbia Apr 3, 🇫🇷 France Apr 10, and 🇸🇮 Slovenia Apr 24 – please contact us via Modmail, or me directly.

Hungary elections will be more interesting
Can a short synthesis of the different (2) parties platforms be published on the key issues of our age ? Like economics, social, environment, war in ukraine, europe ans so on ?
The Wikipedia pages don’t give as much context.
Why is this story about Malta but the picture shows a ballot from Australia?
