Its about survival right now. Im sure Ukraine would like compassion and understanding, but if this dickwad gives Ukraine the means to survival and take it to Russia, they have no choice unfortunately.
The minerals are for political support only
I’m fine with disregarding emotions at the geopolitical level; there is too much at stake to let hormones make the decisions. What I am not ok with is failing to go for a win because you can’t see the value of it. Containing the Russians now will pay dividends for half a century. Failing to contain them will invite a major war in less than 5 years. Whatever we are paying now it’s cheap compared to fighting another world war.
For what it’s worth, I think Zelinsky floated the minerals idea. It’s a bit too brilliant to come from this White House. He knows that if the USA expects riches it will invest and prevail, especially against a corrupt dictatorship like Russia. All they know how to do is send waves of bodies into kill zones.
Trump is incapable of empathy. He literally doesn’t have it in him.
America is showing the world that they care not about Democracy, nor UN Charter, Nor sovereignty. Americas elite care only for themselves and that is exacerbated under Donald Trums rule.True American leaders of the past, who fought for the rights of democracy, who fought world wars in the face of Nazis, who fought to ensure a peace for every citizen of a democratic country will be turning in their graves.
I have always looked upon America as the leader of the free world, but I no longer do. I feel for the American citizens under Trump rule and I hope Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa etc can realise partnerships that will show the United States that they don’t own us.

True. That should be good enough. Also, one problem is it discourages other countries from assistance unless they also get a piece. Why should they donate or merely have unsecured loans when we are getting paid back and making a profit.
But, I think it will be worth it to Ukraine if we give all the help they need and let them really own the weapons and do with it whatever they feel is necessary.
I don’t like Trump and the complete break from idealism that is a big part of our country (at least rhetorically and culturally) but if it means they just buy what we are selling and they own it than great.
