what is this thing? spotted several times in trains…

  1. It kind of looks like a Tag with a Mac address on it, anyone from NMBS / SNCB to explain me what this is?

  2. It’s an NFC tag, NNBS uses it for an internal project which they are testing. No idea what the specifics are though.

  3. These are NFC tags that were installed as part of a pilot project called Departure in a Controlled Environment (DICE) IIRC. You can find round yellow tags on the platforms as well (e.g. on catenary masts). The project was abandoned but cost 11 million euros, apparently. But I may be wrong as I am no “cheminot” and get my intel from railway magazines and websites.

    I’m reading 04:c7:8b:52:14:3a:80 but MacVendors.com doesn’t find anything so it’s probably not correct, or something REALLY obscure.
