    “The mixed race children of Crown Street, a road in Canning Town, East London, became the focus of a disparaging *Daily Express* article in the spring of 1930. While painted by the newspaper as being racially taunted and marginalised outcasts, other accounts of the lives of the children of ‘Draughtboard Alley’ suggest that theirs was a much more multifaceted experience.”
