Europe’s geographic and cultural boundaries

  1. Green: geographical area of Europe

Light blue: Asian areas of transcontinental Eurasian countries which extend into both continents

Dark blue: countries geographically located outside Europe which are considered European for cultural, historical and/or political reasons

  2. Iceland should be green. It is on European tectonic plate (at least partially) and its closer to Europe than to America. So it’s actual Erupoean island, not just for cultural or polictical reasons.

  3. Isn’t geography itself just a big bunch of cultural and historical reasons? So it’s sort weird to say somewhere is “considered european” because of that.

There’s not a consistent physical definition for any of this stuff.

  4. Have to save this for my italian wife who doesn’t think Ukrainians, Belarusian, Baltic and Balkan people are not European. This woman has a masters degree from a private university in Milan too

  5. What reason Israel is not considering European? Jesus was from Israel. Christianity is Abrahamic religion which is born in Israel.

  6. If Armenia is culturally European then are Georgia and Israel. And Georgia have been ruled by Christian kings much longer than Armenia. When Armenia was under Abbasid rule Georgia was still Christian and a subject of the Eastern Rome. And again when Armenia was a part of Turkic Qara Koyunlus Georgia was still independent. Don’t be unfair to Georgia 🙁

  7. IMO Morocco is more European than Kazakhstan. I don’t know why this fake divisions are still a thing.

  8. I have always wondered why definitions of the European peninsula doesn’t end at the line between the black sea and Kaliningrad.

  9. I have read that most or all of northern Asia (Siberia) is culturally European, all the way to the pacific.

  10. I’d say Scandinavia except for Finland doesn’t see thrmselfs as Europe. Rather Scandinavia.

  11. Sorry but Eastern Europe and Western Europe are not culturally the same.
    Just look at vaccine uptake..
We are different it’s stupid pretending we aren’t..

Get a map up of gay rights and you can see a line right down the middle of Europe…

  12. Fixes: Iceland should be green. Russians past Europe in Russia and Kazakhstan for heavy blue. Culturally, Greenland possibly light blue not heavy. Georgia should be heavy blue if Armenia is. Northern Cyprus should be light blue to keep consistent with the Turkish language. Heavy blue dots for the Spanish enclaves around Morocco, Armenian Azerbaijan and the French island south of Labrador. If Christian = heavy blue then you should probably go in depth with the north Caucasus.

  13. Europe has no “cultural” boundaries, because that Europe has a shared culture is myth. Europe is a geographical region, highlighted green in this map.
