This is how international politics will be done the next four years, people who has no competence or understanding in the posts they will hold, because they were picked because they hate being governed by saferails and separation of powers which are there to ensure nothing gets irreparably broken by people who have no idea what they’re doing, and picked *because* they have no other merit than their loyalty to the orange convict.
But it doesn’t matter. It’s only Ukraine and putin that can have negotiations. It’s just very unfortunate that the elephants in the glass store doesn’t understand their role, and makes the negotiations less impactful on the Ukrainian side. The story of USA so far, first Ukraine had to fight with first both, then one hand tied behind their back by the Biden-administration. Now they have the Trumpists who have no idea what their doing, and shows the cards Ukraine has been dealt to their enemy. And demands a cut of the Ukrainian pot, because “greed, for a lack of a better word, is good.”

Well, it’s disappointing. Bending a knee to Russia of all enemies is a very weak move.
He’s siding with his hero Putin.
Ukraine still has cards to play: it can demand NATO membership in exchange for opportunities to bid on mining rights in eastern Ukraine. Trump has signaled the mining is what he really wants. Only NATO membership would protect American investment into those mining operations.
On the opposite side, what Putin really wants is a return to normal trading with Europe for gas, oil, etc. Because trading with China and India is not nearly as profitable for the Russian treasury.
Chill. When a Ukraine NATO membership becomes relevant, this guy won’t be around anymore.

You know, it’s kind of impressive how consistently wrong Trump and his cronies are. You’d think they’d be right about something, even by accident, once in a while…
So much for “The Art of the Deal”. Like Trump, this guy actually has no idea how to make a good deal. You always start from a position of maximum strength, and only ever give up something if the other guy gives you something better in return. Starting off the negotiation by throwing out some of your strongest bargaining chips makes you an automatic loser.
The threat of Ukraine in NATO alone would have been enough to force the Russians’ hand on most aspects of a “deal”. Now that Eggy-Heggy has dumped that winning card in the trash, who knows what the deal will look like.
Sounds like Ukraine just needs to keep their awesome precious minerals, plow deep into Russia and start talking with “Russia’s Siberia”more and more.
