Why is the Arbeiderpartiet so strong in Årdal?

  1. I stumbled across this map and was wondering why Ardal is such an outlier. I couldnt find any obvious reason, so I thought I might aswell ask here.

  2. The place is built around an aluminium factory. Strong support from workers.

  3. It is surrounded by mountains and waterfalls, so the Germans considered it an ideal place for a big aluminium factory; so the entire town basically grew and formed around that one factory. The workers mostly vote Labour, and as a result, the Labour Party has been the single Party in local government there for decades.

    I actually grew up there. Very beautiful place, but also very… small town mindset.
