Less than half of fuel duty cut passed on to UK drivers, says AA

  1. There’s a surprise. I saw an analysis of oil prices per barrel over the years, in 2014 the price was much higher than it is at the moment and yet fuel was cheaper then than it is now. I think someone is profiteering here.

  2. Either the cost of petrol just conveniently rose in line with the reduction or nowhere around where I live has bothered passing on the saving.

  3. Why actually make the right change and cap the profits petrol companies are allowed to make per L when you can cut fuel duty knowing full well that cut won’t be passed onto the consumers. This country is a joke man.

  4. The fuel corporations are price gouging us. They’re using everything that’s happening as an opportunity to increase their profit margins. They say as much when they talk to their investors.

  5. These huge companies don’t care – they’ve basically seen it as an extra 5p a litre straight into their profit margin. They don’t care if it comes from our pockets or from the state. Sunak and co were naive to think that anything other than this would happen.

  6. I thought we’d have 24-48hrs of 5p or so off fuel before it went back up and they pocketed the 5p tbh, guess it wasn’t even 24hrs.

  7. I fail to understand why *we’re* paying duty on the petrol and not the importer, and, indeed, why are we paying any anyway when producing & refining is a substantial component of our GDP?

  8. Prices near me have either stayed the same or gone up. Diesel is currently £1.82.9 per litre.

Sure glad my insurance halved means I’ll likely still end up paying the same as I was last month for the car all in all.

  9. BP near me put it up 7p on Wednesday morning then down 5p. Theyve put it up 10p/litre since oil price peaked

Ever since Asda has been bought there’s been much more slack in cutting prices

  10. Companies dedicated to profit over morals, health, or ecology have decided to profit from government tax cut. Who’d have thunk it?!

  11. Absolutely scandalous! As soon as I saw this announcement yesterday evening I knew this would be the case. I am so sick and tired of this greed.

  12. What I saw was petrol stations bumping up prices by 5p right before the budget, only to then drop them back down to what they were.

  13. Pathetically predictable.

Welcome to Treasure Island, where no only is it possible to rip off a captive audience, it’s actively encouraged and engaged in by your very own government.

  14. It won’t be long before you’ll be able to get James Bond style revolving number plates, for, you know, when petrol gets expensive.

  15. Must be lucky. Almost all the petrol stations near me dropped about 6p the day following the announcement (without a cheeky price rise just before). My local Sainsburys even went from 181.9p to 170.9p. I do really hope the prices actually normalise but I don’t have very high hopes.
