Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to meet US President Donald Trump today with the two leaders expected to hold discussions on a range of topics including trade and defence.

The high-octane meeting comes at a time when POTUS has announced a slurry of tariffs, triggering a trade war. Earlier today, Trump hinted at a new wave of reciprocal tariffs in an all-caps post on Truth Social vowing to match the higher rates other nations impose on US imports.

On his first day of the US trip, PM Modi met Tulsi Gabbard, the new Director of National Intelligence (DNI) in the Trump administration. She was one of the first officials from Trump’s Cabinet to meet the Indian prime minister.

This is PM Modi’s first trip to the US after Trump took over the presidency for the second time. During his visit, PM Modi is expected to meet Tesla founder Elon Musk, US national security advisor Mike Waltz and Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy.

Ahead of his White House meeting on Thursday, PM Modi has readied promises including increased liquefied natural gas, combat vehicle and jet engine purchases, according to Indian government officials who declined to be named.

Indian officials are also looking at possible deals on US agriculture exports to India and investment in nuclear energy, along with tariff cuts in at least a dozen sectors, including electronics, medical and surgical equipment, and chemicals.
