An oil spill in the Kanturk area is being investigated by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI).
An IFI spokesperson told The Corkman that officers are investigating the incident and believe they know the source of it.
“There is no evidence to suggest any negative impact on fish or habitats at this stage,” the spokesperson said.
“IFI will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days.”
On Thursday afternoon, a member of Kanturk & District Anglers Association told The Corkman that members had spotted what appeared to be oil in the River Dalua, which runs through the town.
They said that they had reported a suspected oil spill on the river to the IFI.
The River Dalua is a tributary of the River Blackwater.
It rises in in the Mullaghareirk Mountains on the border of Cork, Kerry and Limerick and in Kanturk it meets the River Allow, which also rises in the Mullaghareirk Mountains.
