Apple’s fight with Europe over USB-C is a losing battle — as it should be

  1. I realise it’s entirely unlikely but I wonder how things would play out if Apple just refused to sell iPhones in the European Union, rather than acquiesce.

  2. Arguing that the standard will be updated whenever better technology becomes popular is nonsense because manufacturers won’t be able to use a new interface until it becomes popular and it’ll never become popular until consumers adopt it – it’ll be a catch-22 situation.

The better solution is to unbundle the sale of the power brick from the sale of the device. That way consumers can decide for themselves if they want a new power brick or if they’re happy to use the 20 they’ve already got in their spare cable junk box.

  3. The Central Commity of the European Union deemed Apple technology un-european, unpatriotic and corrupt. The Central Planner declared USB-C the most patriotic and efficient solution to address the issue of *spy & control phone* charging. All Glory to the Central Commity and the Central Planner. Praise Europe.
    Dismiss.

    *European Anthem start playing*

  4. I fucking hate Appl..
When I bought my iPhone 11 I didn’t realise it came without a charger for environmental reasons (bullshit). I will never buy another Apple product once this phone dies..

  5. This is because lightning cables are not just cables – it is an active device, with a chip inside, and only Apple can give the right to sell the chip, with royalties in return.
