FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 13, 2025) – Northern Arizona University has announced that it has accepted an invitation from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Board of Directors to join the MPSF in women’s swimming and diving, beginning with the 2025-26 academic year.
“We are excited to be joining the MPSF for the 2025-26 season,” head swimming coach Andy Johns said. “The Western Athletic Conference has been a great home for us for the past 21 years, but we look forward to this new relationship and the opportunity to compete against both new and familiar teams.”
The 10-team conference includes Incarnate Word, Pacific, Pepperdine, and San Diego. Also joining the MPSF from the WAC are California Baptist University, the University of Idaho, New Mexico State University, the University of Northern Colorado, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and Utah Tech.
Now in its 33rd year of competition, the MPSF sponsors 15 intercollegiate Olympic sports and serves over 90 teams nationwide. Established in 1992-93, the MPSF was created to provide championship competition and opportunities for sports without conference affiliation.
The MPSF has twice won five national championships in a single year, most recently during the 2023-24 athletic season. In the spring of 2021, it became the first non-power conference to reach 100 national championships. Additionally, 138 current or former MPSF student-athletes competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, bringing home a total of 59 medals.
