I discovered today that there is a place on the Surrey-Greater London border by the name of Nork. And there is nothing amusing about that.

  1. There’s a place in Greater Manchester on the Bury/Bolton border called Nob End.

  2. Presumably you’ve also never heard of the major American city, Yew Nork?

  3. Not far from me to the west. If you go east you’ll find Pratts Bottom

  4. Just made me think of Big Suzes NYE party in Peep Show

  5. I wish Ian Fleming had used this for inspiration “The name’s Banstead, Nork Banstead.”

  6. That station nearby is Epsom Downs, imagine if it was called Nork instead

“Welcome to this train to Nork ….

  7. Burgh Heath

Why do we name a lot of places after the sound our stomachs make.

  8. I used to live there! Nork park was a fun place and used to be the grounds of a mansion house. Why is Nork funny now ?

  9. We’re not too far from Willey, the signs are promising as you approach it but it’s quite small and a bit underwhelming unfortunately.

  10. I had no idea! Been to Banstead many a time to visit family and totally missed that we were so close to Nork.

Could probably have got a good view of some side-boob from Banstead.

  11. My husband is from there and it will never not be funny to me. He’s quite joyless though and likes to pretend there’s nothing funny about being from Nork.

  12. Until the town expands so much that it gets renamed East Nork and West Nork to become a lovely pair of Norks, then there will be nothing amusing to talk of here.

  13. No water I can see but apparently a big area for motorboating.

  14. Tattenham Corner- the home of Tattenham Hot Spur

  15. I was looking at Chesterfield on googlemaps, and a charming place called Cock Alley was on outskirts- fabulous!

  16. Admittedly it wasn’t in England, but I used to live in a village called Fuka.

  17. Wonder what the grand old Duke of Nork does when he marches his men up to the top of the hill…

  18. Didn’t Norman Stanley Fletcher once proclaim “Look at the Norks on her Godber”?

  19. I used to live in California. Just up the road from New Zealand. On the outskirts of Derby city.

    It was grim.

  20. that station on the end of the railway line is called Epsom Downs, but it is in the middle of a housing estate and not especially near Epsom Downs. It would be better called Nork.
