    Edit, walked away for a few minutes, then got thinking about this monologue from the film The Spy Who came In From the Cold (!965, hence the, dated language)

    And just MAGA were celebrating when Adams was indicted, because he was a Democratic mayor. Now he’s ready to engage in crooked deals with Trump, and is a hero. I dunno know, maybe it’s not as relevant as I thought, still needed to type it. Like, that lack of a moral core, willingness to swap sides like a hat if it’s what the system/Trump wants, something.

  6. The acting US attorney — a former Scalia clerk and Federalist Society member — just did something eminently respectable: followed her ethical canons. Her biggest vulnerability was that she had any integrity.

In a significant development within the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), several high-ranking officials have resigned in protest over directives to dismiss corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Danielle Sassoon, along with five other senior officials, stepped down, citing concerns over political interference in legal proceedings. 

    The controversy centers on allegations that the DOJ, under Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, sought to drop the case against Mayor Adams to secure his cooperation with the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement initiatives. Sassoon, in her resignation letter, described this move as an improper “quid pro quo,” asserting that dismissing the indictment would set a dangerous precedent. 

    Mayor Adams had been indicted on charges of accepting illegal contributions and benefits in exchange for political favors. He has pleaded not guilty and contends that the charges were politically motivated due to his criticism of previous federal policies. Following the DOJ’s directive to dismiss the case, Adams announced an executive order permitting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to operate within New York City facilities, a move seen by some as part of the alleged agreement. 

    These resignations underscore internal tensions within the DOJ regarding the balance between political considerations and the integrity of legal processes. The situation has drawn parallels to historical instances of high-level dissent within the department, highlighting ongoing debates about prosecutorial independence and potential political interference.

  21. Mind you his base that has been screaming about “deep state corruption” for a decade couldn’t care less about Trump letting a corrupt democratic mayor of NYC off the hook. This whole smokescreen is proof these people have no values or opinions besides what they are told to believe.

  25. This is crazy, but also what is up with new yorkers electing corrupt mayors? After Giuliani this dude(yes I understand de blasio and bloomberg came in between but these are both pretty major scandals)?
