Cypriot EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis presented his current plans and challenges in a meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides on Friday.

During the meeting, both agreed to be in close communication regarding Cyprus’ upcoming EU Council presidency in 2026.

As the fisheries commissioner, Kadis is responsible for the European fisheries and aquaculture sector.

He overlooks the implementation of the current fisheries policy and evaluates economic, environmental and social dimensions. Additionally, Kadis is in charge of developing strategies to ensure sustainability in the EU fishery sector and resolving issues of and creating jobs in the fisheries sector.

Kadis was appointed as EU fisheries commissioner in November 2024.
