I love in SE23 where we have had no water for over two days due to a burst pipe in Crystal Palace. We just got this email today from Thames Water……are they joking?

  1. How else are they going to cover the ~~£60bn~~ £16bn of debt they’re in?

EDIT: For accuracy / to correct my poor hearing.

  2. The best way to hit them is financially. Those people only think short term.

If we all collectively delay our payment because we can’t bear the extra rise for say, another 1 month, their immediate cash flow will be lower than expected, which would scare their so-called investors

  3. You’ll get compensation for every 24h you’re without water but yeah the timing is laughable.

  4. I’ve just been informed that my water bill for a one bedroom flat is going up £19 a month. Not sure where they think pensioners are going to get all this money from. Robber baron’s.

  5. If this was France, we would have collectively stopped paying Thames Water years ago in protest.

But this is England so we just let these huge parasitic corps steal our money to give it to their rich mates.

  6. I’ve had the same email and an issue for the past 6 months where they have been overcharging us due to the wrong meter serial number linked to our account (sorted now but the worst customer service to resolve).

  7. I worked mine out and it was a 43% increase on last year for 3 bed AHC. It’s kind of insane that a monopoly can just up the prices 43% and there is absolutely nothing you can do, no other provider. So it’s either pay or just don’t have water. How is a 43% increase allowed by Ofwat?

  8. Did they stop providing you with water? Is that not illegal? As in you don’t have running water in your home?

  9. Theyve got to pay for the repairs some how. Did you think they were doing it for fun?

  10. Received the same email and I’m infuriated. This blood sucking company pays its shareholders, doesn’t invest in its own infrastructure which is clearly crumbling, has been pumping literal shit into our waters and now they’re trying to charge us more?!

Fuck being angry, I want an actual protest and boycott to these fucking assholes!

Someone made a suggestion by not paying them and I’m in agreement.
If enough people refuse to pay them, that will hurt them! (?)

This is Reddit people, let’s make it happen.
Open to suggestions, but let’s do something other than just complain.

  11. Thames water are trying to charge me a £3k water bill for a house that burnt down in 2020 😂

  12. These companies are poisoning our seas and putting vulnerable people into poverty. These companies only get fined but no real punishment. That needs to be lengthly prison sentences and they need to be retaking under ownership of the public. I honestly personally support at minimum life imprisonment for what they’ve done to our coasts in Sussex.

  13. Listening to this situation on the radio is really blood boiling. I don’t understand how a company and make millions in profit without trying to maintain the system properly. Then give this to investors as dividends. Am I too naïve? Then when they need to actually upgrade the system it should be the company cutting into profits (or investors putting back in) to make these upgrades. Or have they saddled themselves with so much debt (for what exactly) they can’t service this with profit?

What would happen if Thames Water actually collapsed?

Who would takeover/manage the service for the area?
What would happen to the debt?

  14. When you Google Thames water this post comes at the top of the feed.

If we do nothing, we’re literally allowing this to happen.

Mass boycott? Mass refusal to pay? C’mon people, we’re Reddit. We could almost make anything happen together!

  15. You should get compensation for the interruption of supply – not just bill reduced accordingly, but actual money. We did.

  16. According to the thatcherites you should just switch to another water provider.

  17. If we can’t have water company competition, it honestly makes me wish there was some alternative to water …somehow.

How do I get one of those coke/soda/lemonade taps installed that you get at the pub? The soft drinks in those are practically water anyway.

  18. Excuse you OP have you even considered the share holders dividends?

    So selfish of you.

  19. Ahhhhh Thames Water… Truly the fuckiest of UK companies.

  20. How are they in so much debt yet managed to pay shareholders dividends.

  21. It’s ok the logic behind privatisation was consumer choice so you can just change to another supplier, oh hang on

  22. There is a petition online to nationalise this sham of an industry. I would implore anyone that is as outraged as I am that a basic human right has been privatised and subsequently neglected to a point of almost failure to write to their local MP expressing your outrage that these private individuals, who have polluted our rivers and our drinking water supplies are now requesting more money following years and years of lack of investment but receiving dividends.. and also sign the petition which you can find [HERE](https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700436)
