It already costs a lot of money to maintain ship people out to oil rigs that are generating revenue. The government wants to pay to maintain and ship people out, at great expense, to oil rigs that are not even operating? The only way to access them is helicopters, for gods sake, and you need qualified underwater and topside welders to maintain the superstructure, and people qualified for high-rope work for repainting them to stop them rusting through. Absolutely ridiculous.
God forbid we treat them like actual people. No, much better that we use a series of small prison islands where we can all pretend they don’t exist.
Strange how this idea doesn’t feature in the current debate about Ukrainian “asylum seekers”, almost like there’s some difference between them and the ones they want to dump on a rig.

Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST) is designed to introduce delegates to the key safety knowledge and understanding all employees working in the oil and gas industry are required to maintain.
I wonder if this will apply to the Ukrainian asylum seekers as well or just the ones that aren’t fashionable?

It really frustrates me that we are still doing so little to disrupt the flow of these economic migrants. Each spot in a hotel or bed and breakfast that is allocated to a young man from outwith a war zone is one less spot we have that should be offered to Ukrainians who have seen their hometowns utterly flattened

Quite dystopian, especially if the system isn’t efficient. It would be the level of how 3rd world countries like Pakistan manage their refugees where they live in camps for several years or more, including kids. Imagine living on a ship for even a year and that could be after fleeing war or persecution, having a perilous journey and having mental trauma that makes a lot of other psychological troubles look tame.
