“Nice jersey!” —Teemu Selanne 🇫🇮

  1. I just to be a fan of Selänne when he was playing, such a great player. But as soon as he quit, he transformed into yet another jobless middle aged white man who thinks his opinions matter. Such a shame. 🙁

  2. One of the weirdest things about being an American here is the hodgepodge of NHL jerseys. Sure, in the US, you can find fans of different cities everywhere you go, but you’ll see a higher density of team jerseys for the city you are in. Here, I can walk down the street and see an even cross section across all NHL teams. Presumably, people are following players more than teams.

  3. I was at Teemu’s final game in Sunrise, Fl vs Panthers with 2 bus loads of fans. Hats off to Panthers organization for a honor filled evening with highlights and acknowledging the fans that came to see him, even though Selanne never played for Florida. After the game he met 10 lucky fans, while the rest of us met the Finnish Panthers

  4. Fun fact, before Teemu struck it big as a hockey player, he worked at a kindergarten. I and my brother were two of the children he taught. I think he played in the Finnish league back then (for Jokerit, who have since moved to the KHL), since I have a memory of us having his autograph on the wall at some point, now long gone.
